5.0 out of 5 stars Just like their show
The book is written just like their show. Lots of great information, inside stories, a few insults, and some laughs. A very enjoyable read for sports fans.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Disappointing, April 17, 2010

This review is from: Mike and Mike's Rules for Sports and Life (Hardcover)
As a devoted Mike and Mike listener, and given the huge amount of self promotion daily on their show, I was eagerly looking forward to this book. In short, "meh". Nothing new, rehash of some of their old comedy bits, and as previously posted here, a format that was hard on the eyes and often difficult to follow. I know that Golic frequently talks about writing this book with his crayons - and given the format - there seems to be some truth to his assertion. As for content, the only redeeming chapter, is the one written by the wives. Save your money and wait until it appears on the bargain rack at your local bookstore.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your time or money on this one., April 8, 2010

Let me start by saying that I am a fan of the Mike and Mike show on ESPN Radio but I am not a fan of this book in any way. Knowing the two Mike's, I did not pick of this book expecting to get any deep points on life but I did expect to get at least some new material for my money. I did not see any. This looked as if someone at ESPN had just taken different bits from the show and put them in book form. While I did find that the book made me recall several fun exchanges from the show, not enough to make it worth my time to read. I am disappointed that the boys put this book out just to make a few bucks off of their fans. One final comment on the style of the book, the lay out of the book made it diffcult to review at time, this a book you review instead of read. The print and color style at time almost made me sick. If you do not have anything new to say, then try to cover that up with new packaging.

2.0 out of 5 stars I am sorry I purchased this book, May 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mike and Mike's Rules for Sports and Life (Hardcover)
I am really sorry that I purchased this book and spend time reading it. My time and money would have been better spent elsewhere. I had enjoyed Mike Greenberg's "Why my Wife Thinks I'm an Idiot." I expected similar entertainment with this new book. I expected Greenberg to pull awesome insight from Mike Golic, just as he does each morning on Mike and Mike in the Morning. But that is not what I found.

The writing style and layout are appropriate for a 4th grade library. Many elementary school sports fans would love the color pictures, color words (green for Greenberg, olive for Golic), and the simple concepts. Remove the references to Hooters wings and erectile dysfunction medication, and this book will be ready for young readers. It is set up perfecty for practice reading out loud. I can see it now, two boys could read aloud together to their teacher. It would be a lot easier to read that a lot of other 4th grade books.

After submitting this review, I expect to be banned from listening to Mike and Mike for three days. That's okay, it is baseball season. I an willing to miss a few days of baseball talk to help others avoid my mistake.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it, but...., December 8, 2011

I understand the reviewers who were disappointed in the book. It is a 'Mike and Mike' coffee table book. There are vignettes of their show, small blurbs that hit the high spots. All of it would be very recognizable to regular listeners. This book doesn't cover new ground but the format is fun.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please Flip Through it Before you Buy it., March 11, 2011

I didn't finish this book, and for me, that's saying something. I have stacks of crappy books that I have finished out of stubbornness or some vague sense of thrift. But not this one.

I am writing to ward you off of it, lest you do what I did, which I never do, which is buy the thing without thumbing through it. A cursory inspection would have revealed that the book is targeted to 7th graders and/or morons: The type is about 16 point, Greenberg's remarks are in green and Golich's remarks are in gold. I am going to puke soon.

Moreover, the thing is basically a script from one of their shows, and not even their best show. Hey, I can get the show for free. And I like the show-- it's why I bought the book the way I did. I suppose I was expecting something different.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fix For Those Who Can't Hear Their Radio Program, December 20, 2010
This review is from: Mike and Mike's Rules for Sports and Life (Hardcover)
If you enjoy Mike and Mike on the radio and want to capture it in book form, you'll like this book. If you're looking for something more insightful or different -- maybe like Mike Greenburg's book "My Wife Thinks I'm An Idiot" -- you'll be disappointed.

I used to listen to Mike and Mike regularly and don't because I can't get it at work (and due to my job nature, I find I work better without a radio). Thus, reading it when I was sick in bed lifted my spirits. It has the same flow as the show -- some sports insights, some humor and even silliness.

One thing that can't be captured in the book are all the audio bells and whistles you hear on the radio (or on TV). That should be obvious. What the book does instead is have many pictures to take their places. An example is a picture of Phil Jackson wearing a Laker's uniform.

Another treat is I finally know what the Mikes' families look like. And I'll add an interesting comment -- you know how people don't look like how they sound? I found that exceptions (for me) are both Mikes, and their wives as well. (I always knew they both sounded blond.)

The biggest surprise (a good one) is how hilarious George Will is in his foreward. Mark Chessney also has a good introduction.

I liked this better than Greenburg's solo book. One difference is this book appeals to the same PG rated audience as the program does, and does not have the language Greenburg had in his solo book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed At All, August 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mike and Mike's Rules for Sports and Life (Hardcover)
First, let me tell you that I love Mike & Mike and eagerly awaited the publication of their book. I even preordered it from Amazon. I'm sorry I did.

The format is confusing and difficult to read. It is more of a compilation of their conversations and rehashes old material. Nothing is new or exciting. I haven't even been able to read the whole book because it is so difficult to tolerate the haphazard format. The material is not interesting.

Save your money and borrow it from someone (like me) who foolishly bought it sight unseen. Save your time and just watch or listen to Mike & Mike.
