In the pilot of Mike & Molly (M&M), a thirty-something patrol officer named Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell) meets a fourth-grade teacher of similar age named Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy) at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting. Molly is attracted to Mike's gently self-deprecating wit as he shares in front of the meeting about his struggles with his weight. She compliments him after the meeting, and Mike is instantly drawn to Molly, too, but he breaks a finger leaning on a frail table, and their "cute meet" is drastically broken up. When both have second thoughts about taking the romantic risk of going out together, Mike's fellow patrol officer and best friend, Carl McMillan (Reno Wilson) pushes Mike, and Molly's mother Joyce Flynn (Swoosie Kurtz) and her sister Victoria Flynn (Katy Mixon) push Molly, encouraging them to give each other a chance. The growing relationship of Mike and Molly, two unconventional and extremely endearing romantic partners, forms the core of the show.

M&M premiered on CBS on September 20, 2010 and had 24 episodes for its first season--which used to be the norm for a sitcom season, but is rare these days of 10-13-episode seasons. My husband and I watched every one of the episodes together, and many more than once since we had TiVo'd them. We were laughing hysterically throughout, adored the characters, and were completely thrilled when immediately before the final episode aired May 16, 2011, CBS announced it had renewed the series for a second season.

This show is executive produced by Chuck Lorre, who has had many, many hit shows. He served as writer/producer for

When I first saw the commercials for this show, I thought "I don't know..." I thought it might be a "chick show". I really am glad I was wrong. I should have known better with Chuck Lorre behind it, who is the Norman Lear of today's TV. This is easily close to being my favorite show...tied with Chuck's other show "The Big Bang Theory". I've always liked Billy Gardell since the first time I saw him on "Yes Dear", and since I never watched "Gilmore Girls", Melissa McCarthy was a newcomer (to me), and I decided to give the show a try and I am not sorry. The two of them, plus the rest of the cast, have such good chemistry and really play off each other well. Even Jim the dog (the way he and Molly just look at each other). I've always loved Swoosie Kurtz also (who looks almost exactly like my wife) and the one-liners between Carl and his "Nana" are side-splitting, even embarrassing at times! I can't wait for this DVD set to be released so I can clear up some DVR space! Here's to a long and successful run of a terrific show.

Watched the entire first season, what a funny and adorable sitcom. Molly is such a natural actress, love the gal who plays her sister Victoria, Carl's nanna, and Mike's mother & her dog. Thank goodness for the DVR, we record and go back to catch what we missed while laughing so hard. This could easily be Two and One Half Women, the 2 sisters and the old red headed mom. So glad it has been renewed, THANKS CBS.

Mike & Molly is a fun sitcom about two lonely people who meet at an overeaters anonymous meeting and find love. The show follows Molly (Melissa McCarthy) who is a fourth grade teacher and Mike (Billy Gardell) who is a Chicago cop through the ups and downs of their budding romance. Molly lives at home with her sexual explicit mother Joyce (Swoosie Kurtz) and her pot addled sister Victoria (Katy Mixon). Mike's best friend and partner Carl (Reno Wilson) is a wanna be lothario who still lives with his grandmother (Cleo King) who isn't afraid to stick Carl with some pointed barbs about his sexual (or lack thereof) habits. Mike & Carl eat daily at a diner where they are served by their friend Samuel (Nyambi Nyambi) who is an African immigrant and often relates situations to his life back in Africa. The cast is rounded out with Vince (Louis Mustillo) a sex crazed suitor of Joyce's who eventually becomes her fiancé and Peggy (Rondi Reed), Mike's bitter and sarcastic mother who constantly finds ways to put down Molly. The show is heavy on sexual innuendo and double entendres and would be just another raunchy sitcom but the show is elevated by the exploration of the relationship between the two leads. Ms. McCarthy and Mr. Gardell sweetly show the joy of two people who find true love just when they had resigned themselves to the fact they were going to spend the rest of their lives alone. Ms McCarthy won a well deserved Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Molly and it would nice to see Mr. Gardell get a nomination next year for his fine work as Mike.

This is a terrific TV show... i couldn' wait to get on DVD the season one set. It's about an overweight couple finding each other with so many comic adventures... I recommend highly, as I am a bit overweight meself and can relate...even those who are NOT overweight will enjoy, because it's not about the weight thing more about finding that special someone!!
