Mikis Theodorakis is truly a unique and original composer. On the soundtrack Serpico, Theodorakis captures the frustration and pain of Frank Serpico, played brilliantly in the movie by Al Pacino. I was moved to tears by the heart renching violins in the final track of Serpico.

Let me make this absolutely clear - I am not a Mikis fan but I'm not speaking to the Mikis fans out there I'm speaking to the Serpico fans and offering a word of warning. I think the Serpico soundtrack is just fantastic. It was one of my first records and some of the tracks from Serpico drift into my head even after all these years but I could never find just the Serpico soundtrack on disc so after years of procrastination I decided to bite the bullet and buy this 2CD set. What a disappointment. The production is muddy and the other three soundtracks featured are nothing like Serpico in style. They aren't totally without merit but if it's just Serpico you're after then look elsewhere.

MIKIS IS DEFINETELY ONE OF THE GREAT COMPOSERS OF THE 20TH CENTURY. IN THESE CDS, HIS CAPTIVATING MUSIC HAS BOTH THE WARM FEELINGS OF THE GREEK MUSIC AND THE UPLIFTING SOUNDS OF HIS GENIOUS, I ONLY HOPE THAT SOME MORE OF THE NEW COMPOSERS COULD TAKE A MOMENT TO SEE WHAT REAL MUSIC IS

It's a great piece of Mikis'work.It really combines feelings and beliefs in a very difficult and dangerous period for Greek citizens.This work of Mikis really touches me and expresses what I believe for life.Strength and sensitivity.We need it and Therodorakis just knows all these years how to give them to his people!We thank him for everything.

The movie "STATE OF SIEGE" was one of the groundbreaking political revelations in movie history, by the great Costa Gavras, hot on the heels of the eye-opening "Z", about the American supported coup in Greece of the mid sixties. In "State of Siege", Costa Gavras takes us to Uruguay in the aftermath of another US supported coup, and tells the story of an American CIA agent (Eves Montand), under cover as an AID officer, kidnapped and ransomed by the generally non-violent opposition movement, the banned TUPAMAROS. The music, written by Mikis but performed by Los Calchakis, an indiginous band of Andean musicians, is haunting and uplifting, modern yet traditional sounding, and one of the classic movie soundtracks of all times. The movie itself is almost impossible to find now--it's revelations of American complicity in torture, kidnap, & murder, and support for a very authoritarian, non-democratic regime, is still not welcome and I believe that it is a victim of outright censorship. Just TRY and find it. Even Netflix doesn't have it. How's that for freedom of expression in the land of the free! But the music is simply fantastic and has stayed with me for the better part of 40 years, always evoking memories of the movie, but more than that, having a sound evocative of Latin America.

It's thought to buy such an item like a two disc album with four very briefs soudtracks in such a price like this but if you don' t have a better option DON' T LET IT GO ! It' s not only the SERPICO' s soundtrack that makes your adquisition pays its cost, also the Z score is a good one and State of siege could be an interesenting option if you likes this kind of Sudamerican music stuff like The Calchakis. It's an hide gem for all soundtrack's lovers.

Enjoyed very much listening to the music of this tumultuous Greek composer. Mikis Theodorakis's music is timeless.
