This cute little tub of miso paste just arrived today and I've fallen in love with it. The color of the paste is very rich in color and the texture looks more dissolvable than depicted on the picture provided which means less work trying to thoroughly mix to create miso soup. I think anyone would appreciate this mix of miso because it's actually two types of miso at once that makes life a little more easier. I'm a college student so being able to get my hands on some miso to cook with in my residence hall kitchen is something that I've been looking forward too. Not only can you use this to make Miso Soup but you can also use it as a seasoning or a marinade with certain Chinese and Japanese dishes. Me, I'm someone who enjoys Japanese cooking so as far as a hearty bowl of Miso soup goes and a simple substitute for pancit meals, I've got something going for me. Also the container has a recipe for simple soup already on it so i recommend trying it out before searching on the internet for a decent recipe.

When you make Miso Soup, sometimes you need to mix Aka Miseo and Shiro Miso.
This one is already mixed.

Wasn't sure about purchasing miso via internet but because of my location there are no international food type stores and hey, it arrived quickly. Miso is fantastic!!! I thought I was purchasing a white miso but this one is "red" miso and it worked just fine in my recipes. Would definitely purchase again I just need to figure out how to get the "white" miso.

This was my first time buying miso paste so I wasn't even sure what I was getting myself into, I was pleasantly surprised with this showed up! There are directions on the packaging that made making my first batch of soup super easy, and the taste is great. I will certainly be re-ordering this when I run out.

There's not a lot of difference between brands that I can see, this one has the proper taste and texture so is very nice.

I love this little tub of miso! I like to cook casually with Japanese ingredients and rather than buying multiple types of miso, I prefer this awase paste, which is a mix aka (red) and shiro (white) miso. It works beautifully for miso soup, providing the perfect balance of savory, salty, miso flavor. It dissolves easily with a bit of stirring/smooshing - I usually dissolve the paste in a small cup of hot water before adding to my soup. I have also steamed vegetables in a bit of dissolved-miso water... not sure if this is a typical use but it's delicious!

For anyone creating a miso soup starter pack, I also recommend these items:

Ajinomoto - Hon Dashi (Soup Stock) 4.23 Oz.
Wel-Pac - Fueru Wakame (Dried Seaweed) Net Wt. 2 Oz. (Pack of 4)

I use it in ramen in place of those nasty flavor packets. Use it to flavor other soups and beans. Or just the classic miso "blood tonic", just some crushed seaweed and chopped shitake. Not too salty, but not quite as full flavor as other red miso pastes I've had.
