In this second instalment in the Nicholas Linnear chronology, Nicholas is being hunted by Russian agents while he attempts to build up his inherited Tomkin Industries in the competitive Japanese business climate. The reasons for the Russian interest become apparent when a revolutionary new computer chip is developed. Also, what is the secret behind the death of his Oriental lover from years gone by? How is his past linked to the appearance of THE MIKO(sorceress) out to assassinate him? This story contains everything - martial arts action, a spy subplot with Nicholas being hired by a clandestine organisation within the CIA, high-tech James Bond-style gadgetry and explicit sex scenes! The Japanese business climate is also well-researched, more so than other books I've read on the subject(namely Tom Clancy's anti-Japanese stance in DEBT OF HONOUR.). Highly recommended and hard to fault.

The second book in the Nicholas Linnear story is almost as riveting as the first! Sex, lies, intrigue, romance, martial arts, ... These early novels include interesting character development. Nicholas' dilemma is pervasive throughout the novel: his Japanese root vs. the Western world and his love Justine...

This book the second in the storries of Nicolus Linear has all the ellements and Lustbader really brings post-war Japan alive for the read. Once I started this book I could stop and when I finished I could not wait to go on the next book white NInja.

If you love the old Japanese martial arts, action and romance this book is for you. Lustbader will keep you turning the pages until the very end.

I liked the book, it was good and it was great how it continued off of the last book. There is that Hong Kong Action movie bid in there.

more of the same from lustbader. however it covers alot of post war japan business and some interesting fabels. it did lack just a little action for my taste. but if you like the ninja then you will enjoy this.

The book arrived about 6-7 weeks before Amazon anticipated it would, which was a delightful surprise. Its flaws included being slightly bent (presumably from postage), having a sticker on the spine (which tore the cover as I removed it) and having significantly yellowed pages. However, the book is from 1984 so that is entirely forgivable. Good price for a fairly rare and old book.

I used to be a big fan of Lustbaders's but I'm not anymore and this book reflects why I'm not. There is too much talking and intrigue and not enough action in this novel. I like Nicholas Linnear, but I can't wait 100 pages between fights. These days I much prefer writers like Barry Eisler that don't drown you with dialogue between every battle.

There are elements of mysticism in the training that gives the ninja in the Van Lustbader books their skills, and it gives them a kind of Daredevil preternatural awareness at times.

In The Miko, Nicholas Linnears comes into conflict with one of the female variety, who definitely goes in for the whole mystical angle in a big enough way to push her into the witch/sorceress type of villain realm.

Still plenty of spies and action on top of the mumbo jumbo though.

This is the second book in Eric Van Lustbader's series that stars the Ninja Nicholas Linnear. It is well written and continues on where the first book left off. This thriller has everything, the CIA, the KGB, the technological world of modern Japan, and the mystical and dangerous realms of Ninja warriors.

The sex is very explicit and is why I did not rate it has high as I normally would, 4 stars. But he does give you great insight into the Japanese business mind and their methodology in martial arts training. We also have a well-trained sorceress out to murder Ninja hero. Well worth reading.
