4.0 out of 5 stars It is nice that we finally have an updated book...
I felt that the book was basically the same as the previous edition, with the exception of aromatherapy, and electric filing. Unfortionatly no one book can give all of the information that is required about a subject. That is what teaching is all about. I generally supplement the material from other books, and Florida law so our students stay on the right path. Over...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Intentions Gone Bad, April 1, 2003
By A Customer
I have taught for years and have been impressed by Milady's dedication to the Industry, until now. This new text book was headed in the right direction, with the addition of some fantastic photos for nail diseases, but it missed it's usual high standards drastically. The chapters, especially those most important to the foundation of education, such as sanitation issues and safety issues towards clients, fall far too short. A school is intended to give the basis of a long and safe career in this industry, yet this book irresponsibley dedicated more time to air brushing (which is difficult at best to learn via a book) then it did to the fundamentals of salon safety for both the tech and the client. I am very very disappointed. The chapters seem to be started off in the right direction, then are seemingly cut severly short. The book is choppy and incomplete at best. Sad to see such unprofessional results from a long time industry leader who has continually been the one who set the standards and raised the bar.

Unfortionatly no one book can give all of the information that is required about a subject. That is what teaching is all about. I generally supplement the material from other books, and Florida law so our students stay on the right path. Over all I would have to say that this book was above average, and addressed many of the changes in the industry to date.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not the best...but it will do..., July 15, 2008

I have just finished the nail tech course in my state using this book. Sadly, for being the standard textbook in the industry, the book is riddled with typos and mistakes.

They commonly say things like "course abrasive" instead of "coarse" and the review questions leave a lot to be desired. By finding an older edition I learned that some terminology has changed so you learn one term in a section, but the old term is used in the review questions. Good luck answering the questions when you don't understand what they are talking about!

Worse, your instructor will use the tests provided and I have had to have my grades adjusted repeatedly due to errors on the tests. More often than not, you will have questions that have nothing to do with what you have learned only to find they are questions from the Cosmetology text and not the Nail Tech book.

Overall, hope for a good instructor who catches these errors and will adjust the curriculum accordingly or you may have problems later.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD for Reviewing Your State Boards., March 24, 2008
By
This is a pretty good product if you don't know what to expect when you take the state boards. I liked the videos they had showed on the CD along with most of the terms from the text book. I wish that they would go over Chapter One : Your Professional Image, along with Chapters 19 and 20. ( Salon Buisness and Selling Nail Products and Services.)

4.0 out of 5 stars VERY poorly proofread, Milady should be ashamed of their self!!!!!!!, October 23, 2010
To those who merely buy the book just to "learn to do nails" or whatever reason they have for buying it.. sure, its a GREAT book.. cause they don't know any different. For those of us learning from this book in Nail Tech school.. it has MANYYYYY mistakes including the teacher test answer key & state board exam review book!! It does have beautiful updated pics & terminology, but we have to constantly reference the older version to make sure our answers are correct. So why are there 100 proofreaders when clearly they didn't proofread it very well?!!! Shame on Milady!! Sure hope the State Board answers are correct!! :/ Yes, Milady will be fixing all these mistakes when they reprint them (who knows when that will be), but what about our books that are wrong?! Guess we're the guinea pigs.. haha Unfortunately, my instructor might be using the older version for her next class. She is VERY disappointed in this new book!! (FYI) She has 16 yrs experience!! ;) Have a great day!! ;)
