Wow!,

I am by no means an expert on Brazilian music. In fact, the extent of my knowledge was limited to "The Girl from Ipanema." I came across Djavan quite indirectly. The telenovella "Terra Speranza" was being broadcast on television here in Israel, and I fell in love with it. Of the many songs that were used in the soundtrack, there was one that simply haunted me and I couldn't get it out of my head. I had to find out what it was, and after a lengthy search, I discovered that it was called "Milagreiro" by Djavan. I asked a friend who was traveling to Brazil to buy me the disk, figuring that I'd just listen to the one song over and over. Well, I've been listening to the whole disk non-stop ever since I got it, finding myself getting wonderfully lost in the magic of each song, the penetrating rhythms, and Djavan's velvet voice. Thank you, Djavan!

Mindblowing,

I have 8 albums from Djavan - this is in my top 2 list (the other is Bird Of Paradise from 1988/89).
The title track is...haunting...there's something about it that compels you to listen to it uninterrupted, undistracted...The whole album is worth having in your collection of Brazilian Jazz must-haves. If you're looking for saccharine-sweet Bossa Nova for easy listening, you may not be ready for Djavan. He makes music for music-lovers, for those who engage in music both mentally and emotionally...

This CD is absolutely beautiful; Djavan keeps delivering.
This master piece is so intimate and mature; the combination of lyrics and melodies are flawless. If you're a Djavan fan, this is a great addition to your collection; my favorite cuts are: 1) Om 2) Meu 3) Infinitude 4) Brilho da Noite, and 5) Cair Em Si. Listen to it when at peace and you'll undersatand it even better.

Soulful Voice and Compositions: The Modern Styles of Djavan,

Coming to Rio de Janeiro from Northeast Brazil in the 1970s, Djiavan sings a modern, popular style with a good share of soul, akin to Stevie Wonder and some contemporary bossa nova jazz artists. His voice alone is what attracted me when first encountered in a survey of Brazilian traditional and popular music. I obtained this album among his recent works because of its especial sweetness and great variety of feelings. An occasional minor key sad ballad [a torch song?] is balanced by happier romps. The track Milagreiro alternates with Spanish and Brazilian motifs, and different rhythms throughout the album, from soft rock to bossa to jazz fusion, maintain interest. Liner notes are provided but, alas, I do not read Portuguese and surely miss out, certainly on the content of lyrics. Djavan is an outstanding vocalist ... and composer. The 50 minutes of this ear-opening album create a strong desire to hear more.

I've got quite a few albums, and many of Djavan's albums, but this one is definitely close to the top!!! The tune 'Meu' is probably one of my favorite songs of all I know (and that's saying a lot). This album is for people who love great music, and not just the regular commercial stuff. If you love arrangements, you can listen to each instrument at each time you listen and you'll be inspired. By the way, I am Brazilian and I have a vast knowledge of Brazilian music and this is stuff I'm proud of and can share with anyone I meet. Thanks, Djavan!

This is my fourth CD by Djavan I have purchased. Pure and unadulterated is the best way I can describe Milagreiro.
