I own all the albums Gina has put out to date and like them all. In my opinion, Gina Villalobos is undiscovered Gold. This album is especially good; her best to date. I would label her music "alternative country", though I'm not sure others would agree. In "Miles Away" I am mesmerized when I hear the poignant angst of song #6, "Let's fall apart". I say, "Here's someone really worth listening to."

Stunning!,

I first heard about LA singer songwriter Gina Villalobos in an article in the May-June 2007 issue of NO DEPRESSION magazine. Intrigued, I went out and found "Miles Away". Here are ten songs, each one an absolute keeper. I am no record reviewer by trade, but do know this is the Americana record of 2007, even though previously released overseas in 2006. All other female singer songwriters out there, take note and get in line behind Gina. All others pale after hearing Gina tear thru 38 minutes of the raw, rocking, emotional music on this record. I hope the word gets out about Gina soon here in the U.S. Thank you, Gina!

I first heard of Gina by listening to Pandora. The song was one off of Rock N Roll Pony. Being an Alt Country fan, I was drawn to her gritty voice and great guitar work. Her contemporaries that I enjoy include Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams, Caitlin Cary and Neko Case.
Although I initially got hooked on Rock N Roll Pony, I found myself skipping tracks after maybe the tenth listen. On Miles Away, I could listen to the whole album, and never even remember the song names. That's a good thing, since I had no desire to start picking out any highlights. In fact, there are no highlights, the whole album flows smoothly; I hate when it's over. If you have Rock N Roll Pony, buy this album, if you don't have RNRP, buy this album. It doesn't matter when you jump into Gina, your gonna buy all her stuff anyway. BTW.....Gina answers her messages on Myspace; another reason to respect this great artist.
