This review is from: The New Miles Davis Quintet (Rudy Van Gelder Series) (Audio CD)
This is the album where arguably jazz's greatest partnership began, that of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. The first great Miles Quintet (rounded out by Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones) made this solid if not classic session on November 16, 1955. Of course the best was yet to come -- the following year Miles completed his Prestige contract by recording four albums worth of material (all amazing) then switched labels to Columbia, and the rest, as they say, is history. But history has to start somewhere, and this my friends is that moment.
