When I went to her website and the little promo popped up about getting a free tryout of the cd (after I had heard of her from another artist's bulletin board) I was expecting an undeveloped michelle branch (also an excellent artist) or a wannabe "carlton" (Anything but that, please!). I am glad I was completely wrong about this assumption and with the exception of one song I fully enjoy this cd. The only explicit lyrics I heard were on the last two tracks and anybody could here that on the WB or local radio. Plus compared to other artists that make cds with it throw the words around with no meaning behind them. Few artists can actually use stronger language to make a stronger song. This artist has it all, looks(definitely), voice (oh yeah!) originality, excellent rhythm, and even better lyrics. She could definitely rank up there with Michelle. On the other hand with Branch's new cd on the horizon I have another compilation of excellent music to look forward to. Above all things buy this cd. Why you ask? One to promote the artist so she can make more cds. Two: So more people can hear this cd. Three: You cannot go wrong with a cd like this. I certainly hope to hear her on a local station in the near future so that many more people can have the Bach experience. Who says Bach means classical?? Definitely not with this artist. She is a genre and class all of her own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful. Incredible talent., August 20, 2004
This review is from: Miles to Go (Audio CD)
I came upon Ms. Bach's music quite on accident, but the instant I heard the tracks on this album, I was blown away by both her talent, which is undeniable, and the skill with which she sings. Later I discovered her website and read up on the new album, which has a completely different sound from Miles to Go. I have high, high expectations for her second album and I can't wait until its release.

I just learned of Alex Bach a few weeks ago. After sampling her Amazon music downloads, I bought the CD. What a deep, rich, mesmerizing voice, mature beyond her years. On this album, Alex Bach exhibits the ability to either wrap her voice around a touching ballad ('Miles to Go)' or get-edgy-with-it on a song like 'Worthless'. She moves between genres with ease and there's a song on this CD to please everyone. My favorite is 'Anymore' which flows beautifully from beginning to end and captures the essence of Ms. Bach's voice and song writing ability.

The EXPLICIT LYRICS tag is a sign of the times, something Roger Daltrey and the Who didn't have to deal with 25 some years ago when 'Who are You!' was penned. I hear only one word that pushes past the envelope and it took six times through the song before I picked it out.

My prediction is that, once this young lady gets airplay, she'll immediately capture a lot of hearts and ears.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alex Bach has a bright future in front of her, October 22, 2002

I purchased "Miles to Go" approximately 3 months ago and the CD has not left my player since. Alex really shines with her debut offering, the emotion range this album covers is extensive. Her music has been labeled as pop, but I think it goes much further than that. The unique instrumentation and exceptional lyrics shine through every song. Alex explores a range of emotions, from the tragedy and loss from September 11th on the title track, to more intimate songs like Hurricane or Kaleidoscope that deal with traditional subjects, love and relationships. Alex is a gifted songwriter and I believe the song Worthless best exhibits her talents. This is my favorite track on the album because it expresses a different take on relationships. It explores an angle that is rarely seen in popular music, from a uniquely female point of view. Alex combines songwriting skill similar to Alanis Morisette, the attitude of a Janis Joplin, and the emotional range of a Joni Mitchell. Overall, this is a very good first offering and I personally can't wait to hear more from Alex in the future. Also, if you get the chance, check her out live. A recording does not do her voice justice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alex Bach the Experience, October 15, 2002
This review is from: Miles to Go (Audio CD)
"Miles to Go" by Independent singer/songwriter Alex Bach is a wonderful musical experience. It's not just a CD. The title song "Miles to Go" captures the spirit of our nation during this painful last year. "Anymore", "It's all up to you" and "Skies of Blue" are all funky pop songs with an Alex flare. "Worthless" is a song from the depths of Alex's soul. You feel like you're right there with her feeling all her emotions. This is my favorite Alex song. "Wannabe" is a song with attitude. There is no going wrong with Alex Bach. You listen to her music and you are left feeling like "Wow, she really knows me!" It's like you're listening to your best friend. Alex and her sound are different they can fit in anywhere. The EXPLICIT LYRICS label is not warranted. She is not cursing on every song of this album. There are only a few words on 2 of the 8 songs that are not explicit, but just Alex making a strong point. Don't let that label keep you from experiencing the wonder and greatness which is Alex Bach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alex Bach Rocks!, October 23, 2002

Alex's music is awesome! She has an amazing voice and a beautiful way with words. Her songs paint a story and are so full of emotion. All of her songs will be instant favorites. From the very emotional Miles To Go to the funky Wannabe, there is not just one song that stands out, they ALL stand out. Alex is a gifted musician. I have had the honor of seeing her play live on a few occasions and she just blew me away. As for the "explicit language", I have to say that out of the few "bad" words there is only ONE that you won't hear on a soap opera or daytime talk show. That ONE word is not used for shock or to push the envelope, but to paint an even more emotional picture. Alex is beautiful, sexy and full of attitude. Do yourself a favor and take a chance on Alex and her music, you won't be sorry. Alex just ROCKS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore the "explicit" label and buy this album!!!!!, October 15, 2002
This review is from: Miles to Go (Audio CD)
Despite the fact that Amazon rated Alex's album as "Explicit", 90% of it is not so. The one song that does have a word repeated in each chorus is what could be considered a [angry] song ("Wannabe") and I don't see that it's used inappropriately. None of the other 2-3 words in the entire rest of the album (found in "Worthless") are inappropriately used either...so PLEASE ignore Amazon's label and buy the CD so you too can experience the wonderous talent that is Alex Bach!!!

Alex rocks!
