Product Description

Product Description

Drilling holes in confined areas poses no problems when using a stubby drill bit. These durable drill bits are precision ground from one piece of M2 high speed steel; there is no weak spot where two pieces are welded or crimped together. 135deg tip bits are ideal for drilling into metal, plastic, or other materials.

From the Manufacturer

Now you can drill holes into metal and other surfaces in hard to reach areas you couldn't get to before without breaking off the tip of a good drill bit. These durable drill bits are precision ground from one piece of M2 High Speed Steel; there is no weak spot where two pieces are welded or crimped together. With a standard 135 degree tip, these bits are ideal for drilling into metal, plastic, or other materials. Ranging in length from a little under 2 inches to a little over 2-1/4-Inch overall length lets you drill in confined spaces and around tight corners. The shank is 1/4-Inch hex shaft that works with standard quick change chucks. Use with a Drive90 right angle driver from Milescraft to get inside of really tight spaces. This 5 piece set includes common size drill bits: 3/32, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, and 5/16-Inch diameter.

I really like the idea that Milescraft implemented with this bit set. The bit set is sized accross a useful range, and I love the fact that they all have a hex base. I use these bits in tight places, with tough steel, and unfortunately, I've managed to break the 1/8" bit more than once. The company was kind enough to send a replacement the first time, but when I broke it again, I gave up.

This is a great idea, that is simply looking for the kit to be more durable.

The manufacturer claims "Now you can drill holes into metal" and seeing the HSS notation on the packaging makes one believe that that is true. The very first use of the 5/16" bit in a DEWALT DWARA100 Right Angle Adapter Attachment met with nearly instant failure. The bit broke in the middle of the cutting area. I've been doing wood and metal work for many years. The bits (made in China) are poor quality.

For 90% of my work an ultra compact impact driver fits the bill. These are a perfect complement to that equation. You CAN also buy individual bits from the same company just search Milescraft + "Standard Point". You can find every size in the set. I broke the 5/16 today on the first use but I was in a 10% situation. A stack of three each 4" x 4" x 1/4 aluminum plate boot clamped to the deck.... It was hasty, generally unsafe, and an all around bad idea but I was in a pinch. To the bit's credit, it made 3 of 4 holes(total of 12) before it bit... the dust. So, are they brittle? You bet they are! Any sharp drill bit worth it's weight should be. Get them, you won't be dissatisfied. They aren't any different than other HSS bits you've used. If you break it it's probably because you were using it incorrectly, pushing the engineering limits, or not using enough cutting oil.

Pros: These are for tight spaces only. They mate well with right angle drills or attachments. I use it inside my computer case (steel not aluminum) - particularly drive bays - and it works pretty well.

Cons: These are not titanium. If you are used to titanium bits - these do not feel sharp and so you need some muscle with these. Also need metal punch and start with smallest size to lessen walking. But as mentioned, these are for special settings only and not regular bits.

Other: These bits are not as good as my generic steel bits and can't touch titanium. Might work better on softer metal like aluminum? They get 5 stars because they are they are specialty tools that perform as described by the manufacturer.

Bits are not as pictured. They do NOT have 1/4 hex quick change ends as shown. They ship with plain hex ends, no quick change relief so they fall out of the driver.

If you are looking for quick change 1/4 hex bits, don't buy these. If you are just looking for some short drill bits, they are on par with other cheap Chinese import tool drill bits for pennies each.

Broke the minute I tried using the bit on the steel I was trying to drill. Tried 2 bits and both broke. cheap bits. China junk as far as I am concerned. Go with cobalt bits for any steel drilling. I had to purchase these because of an area that was to small to reach into. I was hopeful they would suffice for the small job. Total waste of money. May work for some projects just not mine. They are very soft steel! Beware of this item for the purpose of drilling any med to hard steel.

The title of this review says it all. I tried to drill trough a stud in my wall and, after a few minutes of struggling, decided to find a different way to get it done. I have an 18V Porter Cable drill that was fully charged. These bits just seem to be of poor quality.

Priced just right to have for the next project where a short drill bit is required to work in tight places, if used with an angle drill. A few more sizes could be offered, but one can make do.
