Book Description

February 1998
None of Napoleon's generals could succeed against the Duke of Wellington in a long series of clashes across Spain and Portugal in the Penisular campaign of 1808-1814; this epic struggle also produced unprecedented wear and tear on the uniforms of both sides, as accurately depicted in Gerry Embleton's paintings.

This review is from: Military Dress of the Peninsular War, 1808-1814 (Paperback)
This book is a great addition or starting point for anyone interested in the Napoleonic wars.It details the British entry into the the Penninsular war and follows it through the various battles and campaigns. There are over 100 color illustrations and additional black and white to complement the written text.French,British,Spainish and other nationalities which took part in this struggle are well illustrated and give the reader a good overall view of the differences between "dress' uniform and the realities of campaigning.A must have for the historian and/or hobbiest interested in this period.Get it!
