fantastic jacket for a great price, December 11, 2010
The Rothco fleece jacket balances durability, style and cost. For starters, it is warm and approximates a North Face 300 weight. While fashionable for casual use, the jacket has features that give it tactical value. For starters, internal storage pockets (taslon nylon) increase the article's versatility. The primary zipper will not choke as it is large and sturdy. Including the hand pockets, every zipper has pulls to make glove operation easier. Additionally, two elastic drawstrings run through the bottom of the jacket. The Rothco fleece jacket has jumbo sized pit zips. On a cold day, the armpit zippers are a bit chilly on skin, but it's manageable enough. Velco enables the user to micromanage airflow into the sleeves. The shoulder and elbow areas are covered with a sturdier material. In addition to increasing the durability, this design is what makes the jacket look so stylish. While overall well cut, the sleeves could be a tad longer. My jacket arrived with a pungent chemical smell. 99% of this odor came out with a couple of washings, so the smell is no longer an issue. After months of desert use and multiple washings, the Chinese made jacket has held up valiantly. Know that the jacket tends to run big; I always wear an XL but the Rothco L is what fits me perfectly. Available in a variety of colors, this can work as a stand-alone jacket or inner-layer of a parka system. Fifty bucks is a steal as a jacket of this quality made by an outfitter like Columbia or Mountain Hardware could easily go for a hundred and thirty dollars. In conclusion, the Rothco fleece jacket doesn't just look great, it balances comfort with tactical durability.
