Not helpful at all,
By A Customer
This review is from: Military Flight Aptitude Test (Paperback)
This books was no help at all for the Army AFAST test. Questions are answered incorrectly in the answer key (Key lists C as the correct answer to Problem X, then gives the explanation as to why B was the correct answer), the Complex Movements practice questions are completely different than those on the test, and some of the pictures in the Cyclic Orientation practice questions appear to be sequenced in the incorrect order. If you want a good book for these tests, stick with the ARCO book.

Not quite,

The book just doesn't do it for the Navy and Marine Corps Aviation Battery. Not enough examples and the Spatial Apperception section was pretty haggard.

Harder Than It Seems,

I used this book to study for the Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB) for the Navy OCS program. I took the test twice and I found that the math and verbal, and the mechanical reasoning parts of the test were a lot harder than the book made it seem. The spacial apperception part was pretty much right on, and the naval and aviation terms were on one test easier, and on the other a lot more difficult. I would reccommend a different book and also picking up a pilot's manual to just get an idea about aviation, because thats what the ASTB is largely geared towards.

Bad choice for test Review.,
This review is from: Military Flight Aptitude Tests (Paperback)
This book is full of logic errors. It is almost like the writers or contributors did not check their own answers before publishing. For Example, this is an actual question from the book:
"A fighter jet was scheduled to fly four sorties. The average duration of the sorties flown was 93 minutes. If sortie one and two were canceled, what was the duration of sortie four? A. 288 minutes B. 93 minutes C. 168 minutes D. 195 minutes E. 126 minutes" (pg. 42) The Book lists the answer as "D" with this "Arithmetic Reasoning": "d. The duration of sortie four is the total time flown, less the duration of each other sortie. One sortie was canceled, leaving only three sorties. First, solve for the total time flown: three sorties times the average of flight length of 93 minutes: 3x93=279 total minutes flown. Subtract 42 minutes each for sorties one and three: 279-42-42=195 minutes." (pg. 68) Logic Error: The question states that 2 sorties were canceled but the answer and explanation are based on the fact that only 1 sortie was canceled. This book is riddled with these type of issues. While trying to study for this test, I was only confused and angered that I wasted time and money buying it.

My husband used this as one of the many tools to study for the flight aptitude test, and found it helpful. Lots of visual cues, lots of practice tests.
