4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I thought it would be!, February 20, 2009

This review is from: Military Black Color Assault Pack Hydration Pack Backpack Large Capacity 2.5 Liter (84oz) Bladder for Cycling, Moutain Biking, Snowboarding, Hiking, and Great Outdoors (Misc.)
This pack is made by Condor Outdoor (not Camelbak) and they make military gear. The retail price for this pack is $200 and the construction shows why. Very tough 1200D Cordura material (not sure if it is actual Cordura brand but it has a quality feel) with double-stitched seems. The pack has NO logos or anything that would draw undue attention and I love that. It is a no-frills meat & potatoes hydro pack. I bought this pack to hold survival gear ("bug out" bag).

First things first: The hydration system. With the Condor product, you are getting a decent hydro system but, nothing special here. You are basically paying for the pack. High Sierra packs come with a comparable system, if that gives you any idea to the quality--pretty much middle-of-the-road. It is adequate although a tad small for this pack. You could easily fit a 100oz Camelbak Omega reservoir. The way the water bag hangs in the pack leaves a lot to be desired though. It attaches via two very small & short Velcro fasteners. For this reason, I deduct one star. I haven't tested it out completely, but my gut tells me this is the "chink in the armor". I would prefer a more robust attachment.

The pack itself is roomy and incredibly well made. The main compartment is 20" x 14" with two external pockets in a 65/35 size split. The pack boasts a fully-adjustable padded harness with quick release, plus a reinforced drag handle. The back pad allows air to circulate to keep sweat to a minimum. A sternum strap along with a padded waist belt help keep the pack firmly mounted on your back. Compression straps keep gear from moving around inside the pack. ABS plastic fittings adorn. There are TONS of attachment points for other gear. The zippers are large, self-repairing with lanyards. All in all, very well made! In fact, there are so many neat touches I can't list all of them (pocket drain holes, ID holder, Velcro throughout, etc.) This is a fine pack.

This is my 5th hydro pack, and I HIGHLY recommend it for the price. While the hydro system could be easily upgraded, the pack itself is awesome. I want to buy another.

Pretty good pack, good quality. The strap system seems to be a little off though, every time I take it on or off the strap catch seems to want to let go, more of an annoyance than anything else. Otherwise good pack for the money.

First off this pack is insane. It may appear small but once you start organizing things inside, it opens up and you can fit more than you think. The bladder is 2.5 liters which is great for any day hike and is easy to refill. So even taking it camping is great. The coolest thing about the pack is all the places you can attach things. It supposedly isn't classified as a MOLLE pack but I would consider it. There is velcro attachment areas as well as loops. With the use of rope or carabiners you can attach almost any form of gear. I only deducted one star because as I saw in previous review, the water bladder just rests in it's area. It does not attach or hook-on anywhere which I think deserved a deduction. For your money this an excellent pack and I would recommend it for any sort of outdoors enthusiast.
