5.0 out of 5 stars Good basic text on edged weapons combat
I am a big fan of Mr. Spear and own several of his books. They
have all been useful in my study of hapkido. This book presents
the reader with useful knife techniques. If the reader will devote
some time to some dilligent study,he/she will learn how to defend
him/herself with the blade.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not really illustrative of styles
The book merely points out a few basic moves without going into detail. Definitely not worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Difficult subject, May 6, 2011
Spear has put together a good introductory volume on knife fighting, well-illustrated with photos showing techniques, stances, grips, etc. The intention of his techniques is to show you how to WIN with a blade, because losing in a knife fight is bad news indeed. While no book is a substitute for a visual presentation of better yet one-on-one instruction this is certainly a good start.
