Book Description

2000
The ONLY price guide to U.S. military knives, bayonets and machetes. The low cost of this book is maintained through the fact that it is indexed to nine of the most popular identification guides on the subject (Cole's "Book III" and "Book IV"; Silvey's "U.S. Military Knives 1941-1991", "WWII" and "Vietnam" books; Silvey & Boyd's "U.S. Military Knives"; Henry's "Collins Machetes & Bowies"; Janzen's "Bayonets from Janzen's Notebook"; and Hardin's "The American Bayonet".) This eliminates the need for illustrations and allows collectors to buy periodic updates at low cost. Useful to collectors and dealers alike.

The interest in collecting and trading in U.S. Military Knives and Bayonets has increased tremendously in the past few years. The authors have seen prices escalate rapidly as the supply of certain knives has diminished and as increasing numbers of collectors become interested in these pieces of our nations history. Concurrent with and a nurturing influence to this growth in interest, has been the publication of reference works on the subject of military knives. While they contain valuable identification information about this collecting specialty and any serious collector of military knives recognizes the books as their key sources of information, no collector value information is contained within them. Values and collector buy/sell prices have been rapidly changing and will likely continue to do so. It is, therefore, near impossible that the reference books could offer reasonably current value guides. Still, the collector and particularly those new to the specialty, need a reference point of value for most of the knives. Recognizing that need, the authors developed this price guide format. Two earlier editions featured only knives but were well received by collectors and dealers alike. This third edition updates the knife value guide and adds a similar guide for bayonets. No knife photographs are included in the booklet. Instead, the user is referred to the leading reference books available on the subjects. Not only are they excellent sources of photographs and sketches for identifying military knives, they are essential additions to the serious collectors bookshelf. The format of this guide permits the collector of military knives to supplement his reference books with a reasonably current value guide at low cost for each revision. Included in the list are most of the sought-after and collected U.S. Military Knives and Bayonets. Each sections list is organized alphabetically by brand or maker. In some cases, however, the maker is unknown and in this instance the knives are listed by type or by category. For example, the knives of the OSS were not marked and these knives can be found in the list under OSS. Likewise, the knives of the U.S. Army Special Forces in Vietnam can be found under the SOG (Studies and Observations Group) category. (Foreword, p.4)

3.0 out of 5 stars Price Guide for US Military Knives, February 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: U.S. Military Knives, Bayonets and Machetes Price Guide, Fourth Edition (Paperback)
This slim book, almost a pamphlet, is a handy guide to use as a starting point if one is collecting US Military knives and bayonets and wants to now what a fair price should be (adjust for inflation since the publishing date of 2006). Not illustrated. Prices listed by manufacturers and type of knife. This is a good addition to be used with other reference materials regarding military knives, but not stand alone by itself.
