Excellent,
This review is from: The Military and Police Sniper: Advanced Precision Shooting for Combat and Law Enforcement (Paperback)
This book really covers all topics you need to know about sniping. A great book for somone who is trying to become a sniper or for a seasoned veteran who wants to brush up on their fundamentals. The book covers things like rifle and ammo selection, range estimation, wind, weather factors, mil-dots, and everything else. Especially nice was a chapter on how to fill out your log book. The log books are so important, but no one else really shows you how to fill one out.
This book covers just about everything you need to know, and reads easy - it is not dry and overly technical. The end of the book covers several tactical scenerios and explains how a sniper in these situations would accomplish their shot. Definitely recommended.

The Military and Police Sniper by Mike Lau,

This is an outstanding book jammed with information for both the novice and master shooter alike. I constantly review sections though I read the book a few years ago.Subjects include what makes a rifle a precision weapon, ammunition, optics, position, the difference between military and police sniping, etc. It's definately a keeper.

Excellent book on this subject,
By Herman Vaalburg (Ransdorp Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Military and Police Sniper: Advanced Precision Shooting for Combat and Law Enforcement (Paperback)
If you are a person who has an interest in Military and Police sniping you must read this book. Together with the book written by Major John L. Plaster 'The Ultimate Sniper'this book offers a good insight in how things work and how things are done to function as a sniper. A lot of practical tips are added in this book. As you go through the book you understand how much the author 'Michael Lau' knows about the subject and how much experience he has in the subject.

This book has tons of information. I found typos on practically every page, so the editor needs to be fired, but overall there's so much here and it's written so well that I would highly recommend it. Mike Lau has a friendly writing style, and does not overload the text with technical jargon and $5 words, though there is plenty of technical info in there. Reading it is more like talking to a shooting buddy than reading an engineering manual. There are also tons of pictures, and although I would have gladly paid extra for some to be in color, they are all clear, helpful, and interesting. This is not the end-all, be-all of shooting manuals; rather, it is really one person's knowledge as well as his experienced opinions. For non-fiction, it is quite a page-turner. Mike Lau was a soldier and is still a competitive shooter and is an accomplished custom precision rifle builder. Great book!

This is the type of book that you will never really finish; as you will be constantly referring back to it for training. I read through it cover-to-cover like a novel; now I'm dissecting certain chapters that pertain more to my line of work. A superb manual, packed with information, photos & illustrations. Mr Lau is a true professional. Use this manual in combination with other manuals such as Major Plaster's "The Ultimate Sniper" to gain the most.

Not the best book on the subject,

In my opinion, the Plaster sniper series books are much more comprehensive and informative. As one reviewer here as noted, typo errors are rampant through the book, never a good sign. Lau has some information that Plaster does not and vice versa. Apparently, they are friends as Plaster appears in many photos in this book. Much of the information is old, and many of the sketches are hand drawn in a poor style. That being said, this book is half the price of the Plaster book and is available from Amazon directly. Having compared both at the same time, I would pay the extra money for Plaster's latest sniper book even at twice the price. Either one will serve the purpose, but if you want to see the latest and best techniques and equipment from the current wars ( with old war stories that may get tiring), get Plaster's book.

You got to have two brains!,
By Pain Killer "Mike" (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Military and Police Sniper: Advanced Precision Shooting for Combat and Law Enforcement (Paperback)
You have to have at least two brains to shoot. A cognitive thinking mind and a trigger brain. the trigger brain is much like the lizard brain and just lays there until you're up to your butt in aligators. This is definately a book of 'Brain Food' for both brains that you'll likely turn into a handy referance if you find yourself like me...your trigger brain remembers more than your cognitive brain. Don't be afraid to get them little marker thingies and mark the pages of importance! You won't remember all the ones that helped you!
A well written easy to comprehend book for the most logger head of shooters. If Lou don't tighten your group, take up golf! If he helps, take up shooting golf balls!

Starts off with the evolution of sniping, hardware & cartridges. Then gives you very concise and simple formulas but doesn't do it dryly.

The book is good, contains a lot of useful information, not much excessive or complicated data. The only thing I gave up on and skipped was the British system of adjusting for wind :) Overall, a good source of reference for a shooter. It also seems to me that such a comprehensive study can not help lacking glossary.
