This book not only has good recipes, but it has tidbits of military history included. The snip-its show the history of life as a military wife. There are quotes and letters from the wives...there are also quite a few photographs included that chronicle the military way of life...all in all, it is an entertaining and historically interesting book!!!

I haven't tried any of the recipes yet but I love the book as a book. The pictures, history lesson and background info are really interesting and I like it a lot. The recipes have a good variety and I'm sure I will make something from the book soon.

I really liked the stories and history of military wives. Although, I was hoping for ideas for things I could send my deployed husband in care packages etc. The recipes were for tea parties, banquets, and other large social events not daily cooking. The book made me think "1950s housewife" and dinner party recipes.
Traditions were explained such as the empty table for the dead and missing soldiers. The book describes variations of this tradition and what everything on the table represents, which is good if you are unfamiliar with the tradition. Other poems for military wives and children were touching as well. Good book just not what I expected or needed.

This is one of my favorite cookbooks. I'm so glad I bought it. Its full of history from the start of the military to current day, with recipes dating way back. I've made a few things from this cookbook, and it was amazing. I highly recommend this book to other military wives' to share with their families and friends. Great book!

This gathering of recipes, stories and vintage photos considers the history and unique contributions of the wives of America's military families, using a menu format for chapters pairing stories and recipes from different eras of history. From international foods families learned to enjoy around the world to military wives' experiences, THE MILITARY WIVES' COOKBOOK includes everything from Red Velvet Cake to Green Beans with Corn on the Cob, and is a fine basic blend of history and cookbook for any military library and many a public library lending collection.
