A Simple Pleasure,

This book is one of my very favorite. The artwork is softly detailed revealing a simpler time unknown to our grandchildren. The lyrical verse holds our attention as we catch a glimpse of the man who not only delivers the milk found on our doorstep every morning, but actually is a cohesive part of our sense of community. This is truly a forever book.

Simple and fun,
By Word Sorceress "wordsorceress" (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Milkman (Mass Market Paperback)
At first I was put off by the short sentences when reading this to my son, but by the end of the book I realized that they added to the general sense of calm, unhurried life that the book portrays. On the second read, I started to notice the dog in the background of most pages--I love the subtlety of the art in that respect. It's a beautiful book, literally and figuratively, and my 3-year-old loves it. We've renewed it from the library a few times now and will probably buy a copy to keep.

One of our family's favorites,
This review is from: The Milkman (Hardcover)
I wish this author and illustrator would team up again. My family has this book memorized. ("First of morning, cold and dark. Rooster crowing, meadowlark.") The illustrations are warm and gentle, and the verses are a pleasure to read and hear. My kids really settle in whenever this book comes out for bedtime reading. I was very glad when the sequel "Market Day" came out so we could find out about the Bensons move to the bay ("Hope the Bensons like the bay, hope the new folks want to stay".)

I love this story because it taught my kids who the milkman is! Since the milkman is basically non-existent in our world today, I think it's a wonderful way to tell kids about the way things 'were'. Every page is interesting because of the artwork and the rhyming patterns in the writing. What a wonderful book - my kids can't read yet, but they know it by heart!

I have bought this book for all of our friends' and neighbors' grandkids and they love it! It is wholesome and stimulating--perfect for young minds and enjoyable for parents to read their children. I can't wait to buy Ms. Cordsen's next book for them, which I understand is now available.

Mr. Plimpton the milkman!,
By Miss Dahl (PA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Milkman (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is so wholesome full of 1950's nostalgia with wonderfully rhyming text its so catchy your sure to have the whole book memorized after a few times! The story is simple Mr. Plimpton the milkman is making his rounds (and he's in full get up little milkman hat and his little milkman cat in his milk truck moving slowly through the town before the sun has even risen) but during this mornings deliveries he discovers signs posted throughout the neighborhood saying on a big blue sign "Lost my dog, love Caroline" and who better but the milkman to save the day! I started reading this book after finding it at the local library to my daughter at age 2 and shes three now and the book never gets old and I suspect it won't anytime soon! Go Carol Foskett Cordsen thanks for bringing back the memories of her grandma in a special fun way!
