4.0 out of 5 stars Fretless AZM - Millenium Butterflies, February 24, 2011
This review is from: Millennium Butterflies (Audio CD)
Maybe Max Brennan's Fretless AZM project has been taking cues from his other various projects, because Millennium Butterflies sounds very different from their other albums. "Hackney Disco," for instance, is a straightforward house track, while "Slapping and Shaking" is groovy funk. The tracks here are definitely more tight and less free-wheeling than on other album, and that's a positive sign. "Brushes `n' Acid" sounds like a less-processed track from Tortoise -- until the acid line kicks in; "Finger Me Jazz" is another mellow track with that signature guitar work; "Merry Go Round" has a nice swirling feel, like you're at the kindest carnival in the world. An improvement over some of his other, less focused work.
