Biography

Rhino's Millennium Party features the label's five Millennium Party discs -- Millennium '60s Rock Party, Millennium Classic Rock Party, Millennium Funk Party, Millennium Hip-Hop Party, Millennium: 80s New Wave Party -- in one slipcase box. Since there are no bonus tracks or new liner notes, this is really just a gift set, but it's not a bad gift set at all, since all five discs are good, solid… Read more in Amazon's Millennium Party (Series) Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Best collection of "old school" rap/dance hits around!, January 6, 2000
By
This review is from: Millennium Hip-Hop Party (Audio CD)
When I saw this CD, I HAD to buy it! It's so hard to find a CD with such cool "old school" rap and rock songs from the early 90s. In the early 90s when I was growing up, rap was fun and funky, not like this babbling garbage of today. How can you deny "The Humpty Dance"? Or House of Pain's "Jump Around"? What about Tone Loc's "Wild Thing" or Marky Mark's "Feel The Vibrations"? These are the fun, feel good songs of the 90s. This CD is worth it's weight in gold!

5.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack to the glory days of rap and hip-hop!, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Millennium Hip-Hop Party (Audio CD)
I had been notorious at high school for scathing hostility towards current-day hip hop and rap of the late 1990s to the present but I never denied how much I loved the earlier years of this formerly wonderful and fun genre of music.

These 18 tracks while varying in enjoyable for me, showcase what I think were and remain staples of the glory years of hip-hop and that once, this now disgusting genre was at one time a genre of fun, dance and even witty.

The best songs for me are "Hip Hop Hooray", a popular basketball theme during games I played at a private school I attended in childhood, "Good Vibrations" arguably my favorite hip-hop classic of all time despite it's cheese factor rearing it's head, "Around The Way Girl" by LL Cool, and even "U Can't Touch This", all of which were anthems for my early childhood during their charting days. I enjoy the rest of the songs as well.

Even parents who despise or are concerned by questionable content in current day rap music would make a good move by buying this collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hold Up! Hold Up! Hold Up!, May 17, 2004
This review is from: Millennium Hip-Hop Party (Audio CD)
Okay, this is a great album. It brought back memories of school days in the 1990's and 80's. These are some of the best jams ever made but I have one major complaint...were are the WOMEN?!!!
HELLO There are female hip-hop masters too! How are you going to have a Millennium Hip Hop Party without hits like:

UNITY- Queen Latifah
Let's Talk About Sex- Salt-N-Pepa
Dance For Me- Queen Latifah
No Time- Little Kim
I'll Be- Foxy Brown
The Rain- Missy Elliott
Monie in the Middle- Monie Love,

Juicy Got Crazy- Oaktown 357 and countless others! The females get dissed and forgotten once again. This is a good album but they need to make a version for the females. It made no sense to ignore these ladies who've all turned Hip Hop into an art form. Especially Queen Latifah who is the reigning Queen of Hip Hop. What were they thinking?
