4.0 out of 5 stars A Scattershot Collection Of Some Amazing Music February 8, 2001
Format:Audio CD
The CD's title is a bit presumptuous. After all, all but two of these songs ("The Worst That Could Happen" and "Midnight Train To Georgia") were recorded between 1956 and 1965. How can ten years represent the best of the millennium? But once you get past that, Collectables has put together some terrific songs.
Nearly a third of these tracks are doo-wop classics, including the first three songs on this set. Ten of these singles (6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 18, 19, 22 and 25) sold more than a million copies each. Fifteen of these singles (2, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 24 and 25) were included in music critic Dave Marsh's book The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made.
The sound is very good, but there is no accompanying booklet. All you get is a list of song titles, the artist and the name of the record label Collectables licensed these songs from. But you also get nearly 70 minutes of some of the best music of the early rock 'n' roll era--even if it's not a very complete history. If these songs aren't already in your music library, this is an excellent way to correct that omission. RECOMMENDED

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Music from the 50's and 60's September 1, 2003
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If you are a fan of music from the 50's and 60's, particulary doo wop and rock and roll, you will enjoy this CD. Included are 25 songs that are sure to be remembered from this time period. However, I believe it is stretching it to entitle this CD "The Millennium's Greatest Hits volume 1" since it limits songs to the 50's and 60's. In order to live up to the title it has it would have had to include a number of George M. Cohan and Irving Berlin songs as well. You may not agree with all the songs that make the cut on this CD, I don't, but with a list of 25 songs I would choose most of them. This CD is a strong four stars and close to being five stars.
