4.0 out of 5 stars Odd concept but successful execution...
Mr. Anthony, a fine musician, and his orchestra perform classic songs in the style of Glenn Miller. The gimmick is that Mr. Miller never recorded any of these in his lifetime. In fact, many were not written yet at the time of his death in WWII. So a fan might wonder "Had Glenn lived, would he have chosen these songs, and would he have played these arrangements? I can't...

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT THE CD FOR YOU, SORRY
When I looked at the songs tracks of this cd I thought, awesome. When I bought this cd and started playing the tracks, I thought how sorry can it get. I seems like Don Simpson, the arranger did a poor job arranging. The material for this cd could had been outstanding if the arranging could had been better. Sometines it hard to make everything work.

I can't answer the questions. I can say, however, that if what you are interested in is true "easy listening" big band music, this disc is a winner. Some great songs are included: "So Rare" and "Twilight Time" and "Up a Lazy River" and "Through the Eyes of Love" and "Day by Day." I'm not a player, but the performances seem fine to my ear. Until I obtained this item, I had not heard a Ray Anthony album in about 40 years. It was nice to spend some time within the scope of his artistry. This collection is pleasant, not bold; "pop" rather than jazzy, and yet it isn't boring. It will hold up well to repeated listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars On Longer Exposure ---, October 19, 2001

OK! I goofed. My previous review was so-so. But, after listening
for a long time and comparing to the Dream Dancing series, I find
this to be the best Ray Anthony set I've heard. It's become my favoriter CD.

The arrangements are just wonderful. The section work is absolutely superb. It swings!!! It makes you want to dance.

Ray

4.0 out of 5 stars Too Bad the recording isn't as good as Dream Dancing, August 31, 2001
This review is from: In the Miller Mood: Songs Never Recorded by Glenn Miller (Audio CD)
The tempos are wonderful and I agree with others on Anthony's
trumpet. But the sound is not as good as the Dream Dancing CD.
Just a bit flaky, but listenable.

4.0 out of 5 stars On second thought, this is a decent cd, April 20, 2001

Sometimes things just have to soak in. In this case playing this cd a zillion times has finally worn me down. I must confess, this is a good cd. Did you hear what I said, a good cd, but not great. There is a difference make no mistake about it.

I have been a Ray fan just about all my life(not quite all of my years which are 56 but most of them). R.A. is a very talented trumpet player, make no mistake about that. As is the case of so many musicians, it's hard to always please everyone with every record. Sometimes you will try new things on your records and some of these things will work and be accepted and others will bomb. The key word here is to try with a capital "T". I am more than convinced that Ray is a people pleaser.

For this cd Ray choose an excellent repitore to performn. He had a lot of fine sidemen to play in his band. He hired is old stand by in the name of Don Simpson to pin the arrangements and I think most of them worked fairly well.

This CD captures the essence of Glenn Miller's artistry with a "modern-day" twist. The orchestra and a mellow trumpet play some of the best selling hits of the last several decades. A real treat. I think Glenn Miller would have been pleased.

If you like Glenn Miller and Harry James, you will with out a doubt like this recording. The arrangements are superb along with the musicians. It is a blend between the two orchestras noted above with the technology of modern recording.

Please just go and buy a Glenn Miller CD, but please don't buy this, who needs Ray Anthony to cover waht Miller already did so perfectly. Yhis is anynamous swing at it's worst. If you are lame and in a lame mood buy this.
