One track standout debut album, March 20, 2001
This review is from: Millie Jackson (Audio CD)
There is a song on this album called "Child Of God (It's Hard To Believe)" - so deep and poignant that everything that follows (including cheerful and happy "Ask Me What You Want") sounds somehow wrong.Millie Jackson wrotte this song herself and it brought her the recording contract, superb showcase for her writting talent."Child Of God" with its dark lyrics and wonderful backing vocals is not less moving than famous "God Bless The Child",so the rest of this (debut!) album is somehow dissapointment with forced happy songs. It's curious now to notice that other two singles from this album ("Ask Me What You Want" and "My Man Is A Sweet Man") at the time of release had bigger chart succes, but today they pale in comparison to serious and poetic "Child Of God".I found a production a bit too "sweet",considering that Millie Jackson's voice is strong and robust;in the future she would find much more appropriate backing in Muscle Shoals studios and of course this, being debut album is still years away from her beautiful masterpiece "Caught Up" which was probably Millie Jackson moment of immortality.
