5.0 out of 5 stars Three Silly Chicks Review
Oh, how we love a good barnyard book, and -- could it be? -- we may have found our favorite of all time in this winsome tale. Millie is a milk cow with a penchant for mischief: her favorite hobby is to scare the stuffing out of the poor mail carrier, resulting in a string of damaged deliveries to one irritated farmer lady. I was prepared to love this after reading all the great reviews, but I was somewhat let down. The story has been translated and I think that might be why it seems, as one reviewer put it, condensed. There's isn't really a flow to the wording. A little more transition is needed in between pages and ideas. And the illustrations of the mischievous cow were not what i was...

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Silly Chicks Review, January 27, 2008
This review is from: Millie Waits for the Mail (Hardcover)
Oh, how we love a good barnyard book, and -- could it be? -- we may have found our favorite of all time in this winsome tale. Millie is a milk cow with a penchant for mischief: her favorite hobby is to scare the stuffing out of the poor mail carrier, resulting in a string of damaged deliveries to one irritated farmer lady. The bedraggled mailman finally comes up with an ingenious plan, but things quickly go awry, leading to a crazy chase scene that leaves everyone a little worse for wear. Will Millie redeem herself? Let's just say Millie's got a few surprises to deliver! (And while Millie may be the milk cow with the mostest, check out her chicken friends, who do their best to steal the show.)

A cute story about a persistant cow scaring the mailman daily. It is a fairly short story, but very cleverly illustratedMillie Waits for the Mail. Just right for bedtime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kids book, February 19, 2009

Any book that can make our whole family howl with laughter deserves 5 stars. My kids love having us read the book to them, as well as studying the illustrations on their own. Great book for kids ages 3-7.

This delightful book tells the story of a milk cow whose sole joy is startling the mailman. The mailman soon comes up with a plan that changes everyone's mail experience. This cute story has fun pictures and makes adults and kids laugh.

4.0 out of 5 stars a lot going on in Millie's world!, January 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Millie Waits for the Mail (Hardcover)
My son received this book last spring. Since then, we have given it as a gift 3 times!
The story is easy to grasp, and funny. But my favorite part of the book is the illustrations - there's an entire saga going on with the chickens on the farm!
Highly enjoyable for young and old alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Delight of Our Evening Reading, March 14, 2009
This review is from: Millie Waits for the Mail (Hardcover)
We have 2.5 year-old twins and story time has become a challenge because they have very different interests, but this book has become a true favorite! It has a COW (MOOO) and a MAILMAN (Hi, Mailman!) and funny pictures with absurd hiding places for a cow. Not too long. Not to short. Just right!

Absolutely loved this book, so much so that I had a hard time giving it away to a child for a gift. Terrific story line and illustrations.

2.0 out of 5 stars My Grandson Hated It, January 16, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Millie Waits for the Mail (Hardcover)
I read this book twice to my grandson, and after the second reading, he told me to put it where he could not see it again, "on top of the refrigerator." He did not like it, and he did not want to give it away to anyone else either. I'm going to put it where he can't see it, back on the UPS truck to Amazon. His dad and I tried to analyse what the problem might be, and decided that the characters were just mean-spirited. Millie scares the mailman every day for no good reason, and when the mailman decides to try to win her over with a gift, it gets crushed and ruined, along with the mailman's bike. Maybe the idea that a cow would deliberately scare someone for the fun of it was scary too. As an adult reading it, it seemed overrated.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lost in translation, January 4, 2012

I was prepared to love this after reading all the great reviews, but I was somewhat let down. The story has been translated and I think that might be why it seems, as one reviewer put it, condensed. There's isn't really a flow to the wording. A little more transition is needed in between pages and ideas. And the illustrations of the mischievous cow were not what i was expecting. Millie doesn't really have a mouth and the eyes are always drawn the exact same way. There are a couple humorous pictures, but I would have loved to see some facial expressions. There really wasn't much going on with the chickens. Overall, it was just ok.

I absolutely adore this book. It is just hysterical. To see Millie, the COW, sneaking around trying to scare the mailman was totally enjoyable. Funny story, a co-worker owns a few cows, and one of his cows has the personality of a dog. It is playful and energetic and chases after attention. The cow (whose name is Ginger) is ridiculously entertaining. Once he even chased my co-workers son up a tree, all in good fun of course. Anyways, reading `Millie Waits for the Mail' reminded me of Ginger and it just made the experience all the more enjoyable. The way that the mail carrier combats Millie's nature and the `smile to the face' ending here is also well worth noting. It's just an all around `good' book that the whole family can enjoy!
