A Charming Book,
By
This review is from: Millie's Book (Paperback)
I received "Millie's Book" as a gift several years ago. Although I may be a bit partial having shared my life with Springer Spaniels for nearly 20 years, I found the book very enjoyable. Aside from Millie and her pups being adorable, the photos are wonderful, and it gives an inside look into the White House. I was also under the impression "Millie's Book" was more of a children's book, but it has interest for all ages. I would definately recommend "Millie's Book", especially for lovers of spaniel dogs!

A Fun Romp Through The White House,
By A. Person "Anne Marie" (Oakdale, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Millie's Book (Paperback)
An interest in dogs led me to this book-and it's a fun read! If you know any springer spaniels, especially spoiled ones, it will seem like they wrote it. The book's purpose was to raise funds for Mrs. Bush's Literacy Campaign, and the content is non-partisan.The book follows Millie's years as the Bush's companion. The pictures are great, and include captions by Millie and many shots of her puppies. You do get an overview of White House history from a stay-off-the-furniture point of view. Millie has since passed away, but "her" book makes you feel like you met her. This book would also be great for a family to read together-some captions are simple enough for early readers, while there are enough pictures to occupy them while older folks handle the text.

I ran across this book that I had bought a few years ago and once again was fully entertained by it. We have a Springer Spaniel also, so that made it even more enjoyable. The pictures are fantastic! The story was adorable and gave us a look at how hard life in the White House is for a well loved pet. :) Give it a look, I think you will enjoy.

Dog Gone Good Read,
By Andy Overbay (Chilhowie, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Millie's Book (Paperback)
Millie's Book reminds us to look at the world through a child's eyes every once in a while. I found the book fascinating, and Millie's "insights" very interesting. I can honestly say that I learned more about our President's home through this account than any book on the subject that I have been exposed to. As the owner of a spoiled Springer myself, I also can attest to the fact that many of Millie's musings strike very closely to real life! Perhaps a little too closely! The photos are superb (and Springers can be very hard the photograph) and the knowledge gained from this book will surprise you. Add it to your library today!

The Ugliest Dog in Washington? No way!,
This review is from: Millie's Book (Paperback)
I love dogs and I also had the wonderful experience of attending a Presidential send-off at the White House during the Bush Presidency. I was standing behind a cordoned off area when Ranger (one of Millie's puppies who had grown up a bit) ran over to us. What a sweet dog! Later that afternoon, I was walking through Union Station and saw "Millie's Book" for sale. I thought it was a children's book and was going to pass on it but decided to buy it since proceeds would benefit Mrs. Bush's literacy program and I had just met one of Millie's pups. This isn't a children's book. It's an engagingly written account of life at the White House from a dog's-eye point of view. I was greatly amused by the photographs of President Bush letting Millie in and out and in and out! The apology letter and photograph to the gardeners for digging in the tulips was just precious. The narrative made the Bush family seem just like everyday folks who are just like the rest of us. When the dog misbehaved, she became "YOUR dog" instead of "Our dog." That's exactly the same in my own house! This is a non-partisan book which gives you a behind the scenes look at the White House and at Presidential life. I enjoyed this light read very much.

Love this book! It is fun, witty and totally charming. What a clever way to give a personal, inside look at the White House during the George H.W. Bush presidency. I chuckle every time I think of Millie referring to President Bush as "the Prez," her ins and outs in the Oval Room, Millie's commentary on Barbara at the puppies' first shots, and the photos of Millie with dignitaries and celebrities. Marvelous that proceeds have been donated to children's literacy programs. Well done, Millie!

Well told as through a dog's point of view. Fun book to share with family. Enjoyed looking at the pictures, also.

Loved this book!,

I was so very surprised when I opened the book. There was so much more to this book than I was expecting. I enjoyed so much the Millie point of view, seeing the puppies, finding out how they all found homes, and even the Queen of England and Jordanian Royalty met the puppies or at least some of them. Lovely book to read over and over. It really did show a real side to the presidential family of the day.

This book has WONDERFUL pictures of Millie inside and outside of the White House. It is wonderful to see pictures of President Bush laying on the grass with puppies climbing all over him. It reminds us that Presidents are human too.
