I am delighted our paths have crossed today. After working with large multi-national brands, start-ups, and everything in-between over the years, one thing was clear: most organizations do not fully appreciate the website, and they make many of the same mistakes, regardless of how much money they invest, and how experienced the team is.

If you're either a business owner, a marketer getting into the digital space, or a student, then this book should be a valuable resource for you. It works well both as a cover to cover read and a handy reference guide. I've been in this business for 15 years so this stuff isn't scary to me at all (although, I admit - I learned a few things from reading this book), but it's really easy for this subject matter to be over the head of a reasonably smart and business savvy person.

Ms. Murtagh draws from her experience, stays very focused on outlining practical advice (that you can actually use), and doesn't over hype the subject matter. Many books written about building a successful website and online presence leave you feeling like you just walked out of a pyramid scheme pitch, but this one just sticks with being useful.

The content of the book is broken out into very digestible chunks and as a busy person I appreciate that. If you've just read it and need to go back and reference something quick, the table of contents is very detailed and will lead you right back to what you need to see. If you "know enough to be dangerous" when it comes to building and marketing websites, this book can help you fill in some gaps.

Overall great value and a very small investment to make when it comes to building your online presence.

Since the dawn of (Internet) time, it seemed like the secrets for successful website strategy have been kept by the so-called "Web Elite." While most business owners, especially those owning small- or medium-sized businesses, are too busy to get into the nuts and bolts of creating and maintaining a successful website, it is important that they comprehend key pieces of the puzzle so they can make informed decisions about their online strategies and to help them choose a partner agency to assist them in making the online portion of their business successful. For far too long now, a large number of charlatans and incompetents have taken advantage of business owner ignorance and created terrible and wholly unsuccessful websites; and, have made a lot of money doing so.

I've written about some of those clients with whom I consulted who had been taken advantage of in an effort to help others learn to make better decisions about their businesses. I have long believed that an educated client is a better client, and have consulted with many business owners to help them be more educated.

Thankfully, I'm not the only one who feels that way. This is demonstrated by some books recently penned by some of the "Web Elite" which share the secrets of optimizing websites for conversions, measuring for success and promoting businesses via social media. The latest, and quite possibly the best so far, of these books is "Million Dollar Websites" by Rebecca Murtagh. The subtitle of the book spells it all out:

"Build a better website using best practices of the web elite in e-business, design, SEO, usability, social media and conversion."

And that's exactly what the book delivers.

Million Dolar Websites is incredibly readable, making sense of out the complex marketing and website world. Having been in business for over 32 years and having launched 4 new sites over the years, I discovered how much there is still to learn in the ever changing world of website design and strategy. This book is very practical and remains a good references for anyone who is building or maintaing their website. Rebecca's comments and insights regarding best practices was very insightful. Her chapter on SEO was immensely helpful. I highly recommend this book and encourage you to put into practice her recommendations. You will not be disappointed.
