Wow! Much better than expected!, August 21, 2000

I teach high school civics and current affairs, and reviewed this video for use in school. I've seen a million of these things and am rarely impressed. This one, though, is different. It demonstrates the ability of ordinary people in creating social change -- something that most young people today don't think is possible. Some people might like the stars, but I found that the real power is in the moms, dads, friends who bring homemade signs and personal tributes. Their comments will certainly make people think -- and isn't that the goal? It's true that many scenes are emotional -- but the video doesn't editorialize (and if it was just another slick piece of propaganda, I would hate it). There are no smarmy voiceovers, no swelling of canned music -- just the simple portrayal of the deep emotions and real lives that are affected by policy decisions. This video is definitely one to keep.

Makes you feel like you were there!, August 21, 2000

Although I was unable to attend the March myself, this video really gave me a sense of what it was like in Washington. You can feel the emotions - grief over the loss of loved ones to gun violence, but a real sense of hope as well. I recommend it to anyone interested in this powerful event.

Full of hope, August 31, 2000

As supporters of gun control but not hard-core activists, my friends and I were surprised at how deeply moved we were when we watched this video. The real-life stories demonstrate how widespread gun violence is, and why gun control is such a necessity. The determination and hope for change in the video are inspirational - and Emmylou's performance of "the Western Wall" is fantastic!

Success of The Million Mom March, December 21, 2000

This was an excelent way to veiw our society's large gun problem. It will make you consider and mourn for these families that have gone through the tremendous pain of loosing a loved one to gun violence. It also shares thought and the speeches made by several public personas such as Rosie O'Donnell and Courtney Love. They are absolutly on target during their moving empowerment speeches to the enormous crowd that gathered in Washington D.C. If you are concerned about the wellfare of our country and the huge gun problem we face than this is a film you must see.

Moving emotional experience watching this video, September 1, 2000
By A Customer

Amazingly good video of the March. I wanted to go but didn't, but watching this video was like going. Courtney Love was especially moving, talking about how her husband had a drug dealer friend buy him a gun one day, then killed himself the next. I've shown the video to several friends who were also moved.

Propaganda for the anti-gun crowd, August 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Million Mom March Official Video [VHS] (VHS Tape)
You would never know from this video that firearms deaths have fallen to their lowest level since the 1960s, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. You would also never know that the Brady Act had no effect in reducing crime, according to the American Medical Association's recent study. Instead, this video focuses on cheap emotions and theatrics, starting with Rosie O'Donnell, who hired a bodyguard who applied for a handgun permit shortly after the march. Rosie's hypocritical message to poor women- don't buy a handgun to protect yourself, just hire your own bodyguard. Why memorialize this tripe?
