5.0 out of 5 stars This is loving help so many parents need, October 9, 2008

This review is from: Millionaire Babies or Bankrupt Brats: Love and Logic Solutions to Teaching Kids About Money (Paperback)
This parenting gig is a tough one. We want the best for our kids, but in this gimme society we and our kids might have a pretty different view of what constitutes best. Or maybe we parents are part of the problem, striving for the best of things instead of the best of money management.

The thing about money problems is that they don't just go away. And money management isn't inherent. It must be learned. We, as parents, can go a long way towards teaching our children the essence of money management. Heck, we'll either teach them by our actions or by our inaction. For those of us that want to teach our children financial matters without committing them to the school of hard knocks, enter authors Fay and Leatherman.

Millionaire Babies or Bankrupt Brats? is a comprehensive source for training our children on money. How do we teach them responsibility? How does allowance come into play? Can we teach delayed gratification without being an ogre? How to save, how to borrow, how to share? How to do it? And how about a few parenting techniques thrown in for free?

Lovers of the Love and Logic system will love this financial take. Those unfamiliar with the system will probably have it down pat once they finish this book and can implement it in other areas of parenting as well.

Millionaire Babies or Bankrupt Brats? utilizes the best of Love and Logic to raise money wise children. And in this world, there is little more important than to raise functional adults.

Armchair Interviews agrees.

Love the message and the practical tools in this book. Really like the whole Love and Logic series...think it's great.
But this book is more Text Book than guide book. It's larger than your typical parenting book which means I wont take it on my commute since it wont fit in my handbag...and it's textually dense.
If they bring out a shorter guide I'll buy it.
Meanwhile, if you are really interested in this topic - this book has it all in there. Just be prepared to be in a 'study' mindset rather than parenting as recreation mode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Parents Guide to Teaching kids about Money without Losing your Mind, September 29, 2008
This review is from: Millionaire Babies or Bankrupt Brats: Love and Logic Solutions to Teaching Kids About Money (Paperback)
As Wall Street crumbles more each day there has never been a more important time to teach your children about money. This book can guide you through teaching very young children basic things about money, and savings and can carry you through their teenage years. It is a great guide if you think you are financially challenged and want your children to learn more about money so they can be successful. Beginning with learning about allowances, how much should you give, why should you give one? Giving your kids money or having them earn it? What do they do with the allowance? This guide will help you to teach responsibility and help your child better handle their money as they get older and into their adult life.
