Scientific Value Investing: Excerpts

All the myths and craziness surrounding Wall Street are "undressed" in this provacative, "no-holds barred" action book. A successful, 20 year experienced, Investment Manager and "Investments Only Millionaire" describes in detail how to Manage Your Own Money in any investment environment! Here are some excerpts:

"The principals that allow "the rich" to seem so smart are easily assimilated into any size portfolio, even one that doesn't include movie studios and professional sports franchises."

No matter how complicated we like to think the investment world is, there are really only two classes of "investment" securities."

"The wise investor understands that real wealth has been secured when you no longer have to put serious dollars at risk!"

"It's important to understand that investing is in no way an intellectual pursuit in which "research", "information", and "business degrees" are more important than common sense, greed control, discipline, and experience."

"What we really need is a manuscript written by a millionaire who has made the millions investing (not predicting, writing, or reporting)."

"The stock market is the world's largest known breeding ground for hindsight. Fact!"

"Volatility is more a function of what's reported in the media than the actual fundamentals of companies and economics. And this is precisely what creates the opportunity for profit!"

"The Stock Market is the only "store" in the world where the standard sales pitch translates into: 'If you buy this stock right now, Mr. Investor, you will have paid more per share than any other human being has ever paid. Ever!"

"Issue breadth is the single most accurate barometer of what is going on in the stock market on any given day, period!"

"Unlike buying opportunities (which are abundant more often than not) profit taking opportunities are precious and must not be squandered."

"Wall Street doesn't want you to know that ignorance is the playing field for the investment game."

"No amount of "past", be it analyzed by a shoeshine boy, a group of little old ladies, or 100,000 PhDs equals "future". And "future" is where you are going to be."

"90% of the movement [of stock prices] in our markets is the result of "institutional" trading! And these guys are a whole lot more into politics and marketing than they are into investing!"

"Stay away from any person, product, system, or computer program that claims to be a cure for the problem of changing interst rates."

"The only people who are unhappy with market corrections are those (buy 'n holders) who didn't take their profits during the last rally!"

This review is from: A Millionaire's Secret Investment Strategy (Paperback)
The author, Steven Selengut, has refined and expanded the initial work that he published in Millionaire's Secret Investment Strategy.

His new book is called The Brainwashing of the American Investor.

Having read both books, I can say it's definitely worth it to pick up his newer one -- there's lots of tips and other topics covered which greatly aid one's understanding.
