Great early Mills Brothers,
By Ronald J. Sehulster (Seville, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mills Brothers - Their Original & Greatest Hits [ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED] (Audio CD)
This is a great collection of recordings from the early years of the Mills Brothers, from 1931 to 1948, with most being from the 30's. The only instrument used on their early recordings was a single guitar, but they used their voices to produce the sounds of a bass, a tuba and a trumpet (bass and tuba sound great, but I've heard better trumpet players - although they all used a real instrument!) Any serious collector of the Mills Brothers should own this album.

This is a great collection of the early years of the Mills Brothers, from 1931 to 1948, with most being from the '30's. On the early recordings the only musical instrument was a guitar, and they used their voices to make the sounds of bass, tuba or trumpet. Before reading this on the cover sheet, I thought they were accompanied by a very good bass player and/or tuba player, but wondered why they didn't have a better trumpet player. Now I realize he was not too bad for a player without a trumpet! Every serious Mills Brothers collector should own this album.

Great for all ages!,
This review is from: The Mills Brothers - Their Original & Greatest Hits [ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED] (Audio CD)
The older Mills Brothers stuff - lots of acapella goodness.
This music is nostalgia, but not out-of-style. Because it doesn't buy into the overproduced, big-band sound of the time - instead focusing on a smooth jazz feel, it sounds fresh all this time later. This CD is like the jacket you found in grandpa's attic and ended up wearing all over town.
