About the Author

Dave Millwater is a Registered Master Farrier and lifelong horseman whose articles on horse care, farriery, and horsemanship have been published in Western Horseman, Equus, The Western Horse, The Paint Horse Journal, HorseWorld USA, ANVIL Magazine, and other equestrian periodicals. He was the farrier advisor to HorsePlay Magazine, the Farrier Section SysOp on the CompuServe Horses Forum, and wrote the Behind the Anvil - Under the Horse column for American Pioneer. In 1994, Millwater started MILLWATER PUBLISHING (http://www.MillwaterPublishing.com) to release the first modern lexicon of farriery, The Pocket Dictionary of Farrier Terms and Technical Language. This was soon followed by the New Dictionary of Farrier Terms and Technical Language, which went through eight print editions between 1995 and 2010, before evolving into Millwater's Farriery: The Illustrated Dictionary of Horseshoeing and Hoofcare, an encyclopedic reference that is more than double the size and scope of the previous book. MILLWATER PUBLISHING also produced the Carolina Farrier's Open Forum and Idea Exchange for the Southeastern Horseshoers On Education (S.H.O.E.), the Central Carolina Equestrian Quarterly, The Guild Chronicles for the national Guild of Professional Farriers, and several special publications for farrier events. When he's not shoeing or writing, Dave Millwater can usually be found tending an old-fashioned homestead farm in the Uwharrie hills of North Carolina with Belgian and Percheron draft horses.

this book is awesome. A farrier friend recommended it so we could learn how to trim our horses. Its in depth, informative and well written. There is a lot more to it than we thought.

This review is from: Millwater's Farriery: The Illustrated Dictionary of Horseshoeing and Hoofcare: Encyclopedic Reference for Professionals, Students, and Horseowners (Paperback)
This economical trade paperback is identical in size and content to the $50 hardcover edition available on the Millwater Publishing website, and contains about 3x the material of the previous (2010 black cover) New Dictionary of Farrier Terms, including many new feature articles and a historical reference appendix.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-Have for Horse Owners, February 22, 2012

This review is from: Millwater's Farriery: The Illustrated Dictionary of Horseshoeing and Hoofcare: Encyclopedic Reference for Professionals, Students, and Horseowners (Paperback)
If you own horses, whether you plan to care for their feet yourself, or hire a farrier, this is an incredibly useful book, full of necessary information.

It's worth the price for the glossary alone.
