I am a lifelong fan of books for this age level, and this one is as good as it gets. Milly Molly Mandy is such a loving and imaginative child, managing to be adorable without being cloyingly sweet, wholesome without a hint of preaching. I wish I'd discovered this book when my dd was just starting to read chapter books. My 8 yo daughter is a homeschooler who loves history and reads books far above this level. I am buying her this book because it captures the essence of simple old fashioned village life so well. She has several American Girl dolls and will find this book fits in well with Kit who is from 1934. It will help her understand the times and love her Kit doll even more. The fact that this book comes with its own doll as well is just icing on the top. |
