Book Description

September 1998 Storybook Classics
Millicent Margaret Amanda's name is too long, so her family decided to call her Milly-Molly-Mandy for short. She lives in "a nice white cottage", with her Father, Mother, Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle and Aunty. She often walks through the charming English village to meet little-friend Susan and Billy Blunt.

Her adventures are the same as other children's. She goes to the store, visits the seashore, and gets to be in a wedding. Each story is a small jewel complimented by the author's charming illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars All kids should read this one!, January 9, 2001

This review is from: The Milly-Molly-Mandy Storybook (Storybook Classics) (Hardcover)
What a sweet book! I'm 23 and always pre-read any books that i intend to give as gifts to the various kids i know. Usually i find that they eventually turn into scary stuff which isn't too good for the younger ones. When i read this story book i went out and got six copies, one for each of the young children i baby-sit, age ranging 3 to 9, even the 9 year old loved it. There is no violence, no bad language and is a wonderful way of showing young children how people lived in days gone by without taking on a lecturing tone. You know what, even the two young boys liked it!:-)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Timeless Treasure..., November 20, 2000
By
This review is from: The Milly-Molly-Mandy Storybook (Storybook Classics) (Hardcover)
This book has been a staple in my family for generations, as I am the great-grandaughter of the author! I am thrilled to be sharing it with my OWN child. What a pleasure it is to see these wholesome tales (based on the adventures of JLB's daughter (my grandmother) as a young girl in Holland) stand the test of time. I would highly recommend these stories. Milly Molly Mandy was originally published on the Children's Pages of the Christian Science Monitor in 1925. It was assumed by many readers that the stories take place in England, because of the book's first mass publishing in Great Britain. I am very proud of my Dutch heritage (as well as my famous relative), & wanted to be sure the readers knew where the stories originated from.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet nostalgic bit of childhood for all ages., June 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Milly-Molly-Mandy Storybook (Storybook Classics) (Hardcover)
I have four children ranging in age from 11 to 5 and all of them love the Milly-Molly-Mandy stories, even my two very active boys. The stories are delightfully old-fashioned tales of the everyday adventures of the heroine, Milly-Molly-Mandy. They are the perfect tone and length for a good bedtime read. I love them for their idyllic depiction of rural life in an English village.
