Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 3–Sam is excited that her teacher is coming for breakfast Saturday morning. When the day arrives, and her mother is sick, she and her brother Milo decide that they can prepare the meal on their own. Sam makes a giant flapjack, which Milo inadvertently manages to flip right into their dog's open mouth. Fortunately, he comes up with an eating and guessing game that both nourishes and entertains Mrs. Bell. Many of the plot elements of this fast-paced easy-reader are far-fetched. The idea of a teacher telling a student that she is coming to her house for breakfast without checking with a parent is highly unlikely, as is the mother remaining in bed when the guest arrives. The appealing cartoons keep the action moving and add some needed detail to the implausible story.–Corrina Austin, Locke's Public School, St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada
