Serious milongeros should own this disk.,

This review is from: Milonga Vieja Milonga (Audio CD)
Serious Argentine tango dancers will love this compact disk. The milonga has a rhythm that is like a syncopated march and has different steps than those used with the tango. My exposure to the milonga through teachers of La Société Culturelle Argentine - Québec - Canada. Good milongas are hard to find. You might have a few scattered across many CDs in your collection mixed in with tangos and Argentine waltzes. With "Milonga Vieja," the great milongas from the 1930's and 1940's (the "Golden Age of Tango") are in one place. No need to search for danceable music. If you are "hosting a milonga" or holding a dance where you have to put together sets of dance music that might include tangos, valses, milongas, and salsa, this is an ideal choice to have. My biggest challenge in putting music into sets is getting danceable milongas without having to use more than 2 or 3 disks. "Milonga Vieja" solves my problems. This is a fantastic collection of some of my favorite milongas, including the works of Firpo, Agostino, Laurenz, Pugliese, and Canaro, to name a few. Many are instrumental (the "orquesta típica"), and some have singers. What is important to me is that I feel like dancing when I hear this music. My feet start moving with the beat. When I hear the music, I just have to dance. It does not bother me that these are recordings from 50 or 60 years ago. They are of good quality. There is nothing like a classic!

Great for Dancing,

This review is from: Milonga Vieja Milonga (Audio CD)
These Milonga's are great for dancing. All tempo's of milonga are represented. The quality of the recording is very good. You may not like every milonga on this CD, but you will like most of them, and these are authentic milonga's from the golden age. Not a rip off.

I found this collection of milongas to be the best value of those I've seen available. A broad selection of dance numbers from the '30s and '40s, including classics from the orchestras of Canaro, D'Agostino and Firpo, plus good quality transcription, makes this an ideal first album for any Tango dancer or DJ.
