The Wizard of the Vibes
Highly recommended to all true bop-fans.Here we have that great musician at an early stage of his career. I especially like the tracks with Thelonious Monk for the combination of Jackson's crispy sounding improvisations with Monk's unique style. The other half of the album is done by the members of the MJQ with Lou Donaldson added, offering the really rare occasion of...

The sound quality couldn't match the materials
The material on this disc is as good as, if not better, other Milt Jackson CD. However, the recording is pretty old. The disc seem to be a straight transfer, making the disc sound like a bad recording from a old tape. If you are a hardcore M.J fan, you'll enjoy the disc. Otherwise, you may be better off with other MJ discs, such as "Bag Groove", or...

then "Milt Jackson" is what you should get. It has some excellent solos, not only by Bags but the other members of the ensemble(s) as well. "I Mean You" is one of my single favorite tracks to listen to right now, as is "Bags Groove". The only thing keeping MJ from a 5-star rating is that the alternate takes are placed right next to the masters, making it slightly repetitive (for those who don't listen as heavily to improvisation).
