First the beware part. Not sure who these retailers are trying to fool, but don't let it be you. $650.00 for this game? Not on this planet. Go get this off ebay. You can get a great used complete game usually for around 60 bucks. Don't pay more than 100. If you just have to have a new in box game, I see them every day for about $150. If you plan to play the game, there isn't any reason to go that route though. On to the game. It's great! It's your basic turn based dungeon crawl and you can pull up youtube videos to see people playing the game and get great descriptions of the game visually so you can better determine if it's for you. It's great for family play and any kids from 8 on up should easily be able to grasp it and it's entertaining for adults as well, even with no kids. :) Generally this is a one to two hour per play game. I've played board games forever and this is in my top 5 for sure. If you think you might like this game, check out Heroscape out on youtube as well. There are differences between the games and one may appeal more to your liking than the other. In anycase, there is a huge internet community for both these games and the replayability is awesome.

Greatest Board Game EVER!,

This is the most AWESOME GAME EVER! Period. Put out in 1989/1990, it is very interactive, yet very easy to understand. Comes originally with 14 quests, but there are at least 7 expansion packs with several other quests each. The sky is the limit, though, with this game, as you can create your own quests as well. I had this as a kid for a short time, and like most other toys and games, as I got older, I got rid of it. Dammit!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HeroQuest Game System (Toy)
After days of travel through the wilderness, the the wizard, the elf, the dwarf and the barbarian entered the dungeon. Only one made it out.Browsing around Amazon one day, I saw HeroQuest and thought to myself that the name sounds familiar. Then I remembered playing it for hours and hours years ago. I immediately purchased one that wasn't too expensive and invited my friends over for an extravaganza of monstery goodness and Mountain Dew. For any one who loves RPG's or strategic combat based board games, this is the way to start. If it weren't for this game, I never would have gotten into Dungeons and Dragons later on. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for this game, but if you see a lower price for a set in good condition then make sure to pick it up. What's great about this game is it's simplicity. Once the first level is complete, all of your players will understand the game fully and be ready to continue on their adventure. The game comes with 14 levels laid with other expansions sets available. You get a large collection of monster figures, the 4 heroes, furniture, tiles and cards describing spells and items. It's very easy to create your own levels simply by copying the grid and laying the rooms out as you see fit. As the heroes walk into each room or hallway on the board, you set out the furniture and monsters. Not a lot different than modern RPG video games. The reason I am rating this toy at 4 stars instead of 5 is because the levels you get with the game are much too easy. Before playing, I added additional monsters and traps to each level to trip up my players. With 3 heroes (out of 4) plus the game master, I found the levels to be at a more consistent level of difficulty. You do not need 5 people to play this game, but I recommend at least 3. Each player can take control of two heroes while the game master runs the game.

OH the fun I had with this game!!!! I remember my friends dad bringing this home and he would be the games master (the referee) and my friend, me and a few others would play. This game got me into RPG which I still do now, but oh the imagination this game generates!! Fantastic game for a family to play!!! and those with artistic ability can paint the minitures!! and whats really good is that it NEVER ENDS as you can write your own adventures or expand upon it!!

Heroquest will forever be a part of me. This is the most impressive boardgame to have existed. Screw D&D, screw all others. If you manage to grab a copy, possibly the expansion packs as well, then I hope you hold it to your chest as they lower your body into a grave.

We bought this back in 1989 for 20 bucks at Toy's R Us. We used to play AD&D 2nd edition and thought it would be a great way to get a ton of miniatures for a cheap price. We ended up playing Hero Quest a dozen or so times but found it wasn't as good as playing D&D so we shelved it and used the miniatures instead for RPG goodness. I was looking for it and couldn't believe the insane price.

Most fun I ever had with a game. The art is it's primary attribute followed by the story lines. There are expansion packs and even a website with a few more adventures.

This game has alot of Lord of the Rings references from the magical elf, fighting dwarf, to magical wizard, and all against monsters that protect the various rooms from the hero's quest. Once you get into the game, the board like dungeon with many hallways suddenly becomes all too real, and when the monsters spring out, even as playing pieces, they become all too menacing. The timing of the game is another asset as the monsters seem to appear at just the right moment when the specific hero is searching the room for hidden treasure. And the hallways seem a bit narrow to get caught up in the long dark dingy corridors with many doors into many rooms. Great little game, and am so glad I never got rid of mine. Sits right with Jamanji board game bought about the same time. Playing pieces are small, decorative, and very suggestive as to what and who they are. Just follow the rules, and play the game!

This game is awesome... it's simple, entertaining, and with some imagination you can make it your own and make your own expansion missions, and it's instruction/rule book doesn't look like a bible in disguise.I bought this game when it first came out for like $10. I ended up giving it to a friend years later when he moved away and regret doing so ever since. Bottom line is this is one of the best board games I've ever played if not THE best. With that being said I've recently been trying to reacquire this enjoyable game to play with friends and as much as I;d like to get my hands on this game $100+ a copy is CRACK PRICES!!! Hell, incomplete copies are going for like $80+ Ebay has the expansion sets going for like $200 an expansion! There is no excuse for this!

This was by far one of my favorite games growing up, and I would love to find a new one to share with my kids when they grow up. Its for older kids, the rules are sort of complicated at first, and it takes 3 people for a good game. I was always the player who set up the board and was the 'boss' of sorts, I dont remember what the title was in the game, but the other players move around the board and you control what goes on and control the bad guys. I remember having it set up all summer and playing for hours every day trying to get through all of the quests. Its a great game, I'm not surprised its so expensive either.
