5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't match the original
For me, comparing it to the thing I had when I was 11 (I'm 32 now...) this one is a disappointment.
The brain behind the game is the same, This one has far more option to be honest, but it is much smaller then the original, less durable, The sounds the game make are very screamy and havily synthesized (I guess this is because the modern thin speaker they are using...

2.0 out of 5 stars Returned Twice
We purchased this toy for our 10 year old son and he enjoyed playing with it. However, after just a few hours of play the buttons started sticking or not registering when you pushed them so you couldn't "win" or move up.

We returned the toy and got a new one and the same thing happened with just a few hours of play. We returned it a second time and got our money back...

For me, comparing it to the thing I had when I was 11 (I'm 32 now...) this one is a disappointment.
The brain behind the game is the same, This one has far more option to be honest, but it is much smaller then the original, less durable, The sounds the game make are very screamy and havily synthesized (I guess this is because the modern thin speaker they are using insetad of the original which had radio quality speaker).
The interface was supposed to be more user friendly but the result is that it is very annoying comparing to the original which had simple switchs that were far more simple to operate.
The lens switchs are vary hard to press-My daughter really had to learn how to press hard.

The 2 players game option does add more excitment.

To conclude, the game is worth the money and still is very enjoyable for today kids - but to get ready to be disappointed if you had the classic simon back in the 80's - the game is still the same great game, but time and technology didn't do good in terms of design and construction.

I had this toy (an older version) when I was a kid about 10 years ago. I actually I still have it and it still works. I used to play it all the time. It is basically an advanced memory game. The computer flashes the different color lights in a certain order and then you have to repeat it. If you get it right than it adds another light to the order (ie from a sequence of two to three, from a sequence of three to four etc.). I know it sounds knid of boring but it is addictive. The great thing is that it also helps children advance their thinking and memory skills in a fun way.

This is a very fun toy, but unfortunately, it completely died after only two weeks. It wasn't ill-treated, but one day we tried to start a game and one light just turned on permanently. I took out and replaced the battery, and it hasn't shown any sign of life since.

This is a great game for kids of a variety of ages. The littlest who doesn't grasp how to play still loves to push the lenses and buttons. The double game option is fun but I find that most of the time the kids play it alone, right hand against the left hand. I'm always searching for games that don't require reading English, since I work with kids in Panama and this is a great one. Ours sounds as if it is hourse with a funny scratchy voice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Feeble shadow of original Simon., October 5, 2005

As a child I loved original Simon. I recently purchased Simon2 and am deeply disappointed - it doesn't hold a candle to the original game.

The construction is shoddy. The yellow plastic is soft and scratches easily. The colored buttons are loosely anchored and won't stand up to frequent play. The buttons are not very responsive, necessitating repeatedly pressing buttons. The sound quality is terrible, scratchy, synthesized, and tinny. The little rubber feet keep falling out. It is cheaply made.

Also, it doesn't have memory like the old game. It only remembers the longest game from the current game session.

No on/off button - it randomly makes light and sound whenever it feels like it.

Battery replacement will make you say bad words. Instead of a snap-out panel like the old game, Simon2 uses two Phillips screws to hold the panel in place. Please note that a standard size Phillips screw driver is too large - gotta get a little screw driver and not the eyeglasses kind, because that's too small.

In retrospect I would not have purchased Simon2.

The buttons get stuck after very little use, they are hard to push for little hands, unit gets stuck and will NOT turn off. It just starts making noise while just laying there. There is no way to just turn it off without removing the batteries. Not at all happy with this toy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Homeschool Tool, June 13, 2004
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Simon 2 Game (Toy)
As I type this message, my husband is playing Simon2 with our two oldest children, ages 3 and 4. They have been at it over an hour and are still having a blast!

As a homeschooling family, we look for toys that will reinforce skills that we are teaching, challenge our children and that are fun! This toy has it all! Even my youngest, who just turned 2 enjoys playing this game. He is too young to really understand it, but loves the lights and music!

The older children benefit from having an adult speak the color pattern out as they play, such as, "blue, blue, yellow, etc". We've found it to meet the needs of all learning styles when used in this way! I would definately recommend this toy to other families! And an added bonus, is that it's fun for the parents to pass the time with as well.

This review is from: Simon 2 Game (Toy)
I purchased this game for my six year old and he loves it! He enjoys the challenge of remembering which button to push next and it has certainly helped improve his memory skills. My four year old also enjoys playing with it, and after a few weeks she is improving on following along with "Simon".

I highly recommend this toy. It's a great game to play with the kids...
