Amazon.com Review

Milton is, as he himself points out, an "exceptional cat":"I am extremely handsome and I have a curious nose."

This self-assured feline has the quintessential kitty ability to see himself in only the most glamorous, flattering light. Cat admirers of all ages will chuckle knowingly at Milton's description of his days as "very busy" accompanied by a fabulous black-and-white illustration of him lounging on top of a radiator in a cozy living room. He considers himself an excellent hunter--when he cares to give chase. Haydé Ardalan's pictures of this very special fellow capture the spirit of Everycat: vain, intelligent, and exquisitely lazy. A search for deeper meaning will turn up precisely nothing--simply sit back and revel in Milton's very catness. Milton has the mark of a true classic--simple, quietly humorous, and outrageously beguiling. (Ages 3 and older) --Emilie Coulter

From Publishers Weekly

Graphic design is key in this petite volume, boldly illustrated in black and white. "I am an exceptional cat," declares Milton, rolling on his back in a horizontal shot. "I am extremely handsome and I have a curious nose," he continues, and his dark forehead and light snout appear in extreme close-up, now framed vertically. "I see everything, day or night," he says, and only his white markings and open eyes show against an opaque background. To his unmentioned owner, Milton must be unique, but feline fanciers will recognize their own pets in his routines and his unmistakable facial expressions, from an ears-flattened angry glare to an ears-forward, eyes-squeezed-shut semblance of contentment. Swiss author/artist Ardalan eschews embellishment in her images and sentencesArather, she lets the spareness of each play against the other. "My days are very busy," Milton says, lounging upon a chair; "I am fearless," he announces, but the art shows him startled by a bird. This sort of tale has been told before; what's interesting is that Ardalan tells it so succinctly and that, with so few tools, she creates such energy. All ages. (May)

this is the coolest book! it inspired me to write my first review here at amazon so it MUST be good! it is beautifully designed/drawn...the story is simple...my fave part is "very elegant" about miltons velvet paws...if a cat shares his life with you, you'll love this book! ....if you're a little kid or a big kid, you'll love this book! ...if you like beautiful things, you'll love this book! ...(hmmmm...i wonder if he liked it?) :^)

This is the neatest book. Not only the cover is great but the pictures and the text are wonderful. Although this book is listed as a children's book and it would be perfect for any child. I also feel any adult cat lover would flip over the adorable Milton. It is a super book.

I picked this book up in a store that sells things such as rolling coasters and [costly] art deco toothbrushes. I picked it up first, because I'm a cat lover, and second, because I have not gotten over my fascination with children's books. I don't yet have a child, but I plan to protect this book in the next few years in order to share it with my child. As children's books go nowadays, the illustrations and the story are unique and simple. Milton is made to be endearing and sweetly feline in only about ten sentences. If you have a cat, you'll appreciate this book. If you have a child, share it with him/her to heighten the imagination and the mystique around our furry friends. And, if you don't have either, consider getting this book anyway-- it might convince you into one or the other!

This is an amazing book!
Milton is a black & white cat, and he is extraordinaire, to say the least. I do believe that if my cat could speak as a human-type person, he would speak just like Milton.

If you understand your cat, if you are young or old, if you want to smile.
This book is for you.

Milton is a truly fun book for cat lovers of any age! Milton has the wonderful ability to make everyone smile, if not outright giggle. The drawings in the book are delightful and show the happy life of one special cat.
I love to share Milton with friends and watch their smiles get bigger with every page!

I gave this book to my daughter, who happens to be 20. She has a cat named Milton, who looks exactly like Milton in the book. I mailed it to her and she was thrilled. She loved the story - it was so truthful. She has the book in a protected place because her other cat, Winnie, is very jeolous.
