5.0 out of 5 stars Drill quality, thy name is Milwaukee Magnum
Bought this to replace a somewhat battered DeWalt, and the difference is noticeable -- on every level. Very torquey, fine speed control via the trigger, reversible (though I don't think they point that out). Nice-looking drill, as drills go, admirably high top speed. Double-insulated so it has a two-prong plug, fine cord length and heaviness. The keyless chuck is...

2.0 out of 5 stars Two deficiencies
This 2500 rpm drill is much lighter weight than my twenty year old 3/8" magnum yet has plenty of power and the high rpms for cutting plug holes in ipe decking. But it has two glaring downsides.

This review is from: Milwaukee 0201-20 7 Amp 3/8-Inch Drill with Keyless Chuck (Tools & Home Improvement)
The keyless chuck is two-piece with decent knurling, so I've had no problems with bits working their way loose (so far). The side handle is removeable and adjusts to almost any angle, helping right or left handers steady their grip when working vertically or horizontally.

Worst thing I can say about it (besides costing more than the inferior competitors): do not try to use this as a power screwdriver, or you will likely twist off either your screw heads or your favorite arm: no clutch, you see. I am very happy with this unit, and I would bet money you will be as well.

This 2500 rpm drill is much lighter weight than my twenty year old 3/8" magnum yet has plenty of power and the high rpms for cutting plug holes in ipe decking. But it has two glaring downsides.

The forward/reverse switch, located just above the speed trigger, is much too easily accidentally moved from the forward to the reverse position when removing your hand after a drilling operation. The detents that should firmly secure it in place are practically non-existent so that the slightest pressure moves it into reverse. Being so close to the trigger, this, for me, allows this unwanted reversal to occur much too often. However, I've developed the habit of blind checking this switch's position with my off hand before the next drilling operation so it's not a big problem. Much worse, the keyless chuck locking mechanism is not of the ratcheting type as it is on my Bosch 18v cordless which allows increasing the chuck's hold pressure as much as is needed, but has only two degrees of locking, the strongest one being much too weak. There have been too many times that it has, under heavy pressure, allowed the bit to slide up into the chuck. Thank God my plug cutter has a hex shank. If a round shank, clearly the cutter would spin in the chuck which would be a disaster.

Once again it's proven to me that Milwaukee makes the finest drill available. It costs a little more but after going through a Dewalt and a Minnkota similar quality drill. I can feel the difference in the power and quality. It's nice to have a drill that has power at low rpms, and high rpms to get the job done. Battery operated drills have there place, but in my opinion they will never replace the all around preformance of a corded drill.

This thing is built like a tank and its relatively light. That being said its one powerful drill drives 3 inch screws like cutting butter with a hot knife. Also its very well balanced just feels good in the hand when im using it. For the money i dont think think this one can be beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT Product, January 1, 2011

This is the first Milwaukee drill I have owned. I have owned numerous other corded hand drills but this one sofar has outpreformed them all. It runs smoothly and the keyless chuck operates better than the other keyless chucks I have operated. I have battery operated drills but I wanted one that was electrically powered and I feel I made the correct choice in purchasing this drill. I would recommend this product to anyone.

We ordered the Milwaukee 3/8 inch drill to build a garden shed. I have been waiting for this for 3 years and finally it is taking shape. When my husband finally gets to work, he builds to last til the millennium. Nails aren't good enough - we must have screws. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been before the electric drill was invented. This tool makes the job fast and easy. We have had no problems even though it is a rebuilt drill.
