5.0 out of 5 stars More convenient than corded version, March 3, 2006

This review is from: Milwaukee 0729-21 V28 4-3/4-Inch by 4-3/4-Inch Capacity 28-Volt Lithium Cordless 2 Range-Variable Speed Portable Band Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
Awesome! I have used the corded version for a few years and this is just as good in performance and 100% more convenient. Cutting electrical conduit in a trench, in the rain, in the cold, in the dark, the last thing you want to deal with is finding somewhere to plug in a tool. I bought the kit because I like to have carrying cases for all my tools. I also bought an additional battery. I am surprised so-far on how long the charge in V28 lasts and how quick they charge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Milwaukee Cordless Band Saw, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Milwaukee 0729-21 V28 4-3/4-Inch by 4-3/4-Inch Capacity 28-Volt Lithium Cordless 2 Range-Variable Speed Portable Band Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this for my boyfriend for Christmas. I'm glad I did. For being a cordless band saw it is so powerful. 2 speeds and the battery even show on the side how much life you have left before having to charge it. It was a good choice. The price was better than buying local. After getting shipping savings, promotional savings, promotion applied savings I saved alot. Overall this is a awesome product.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite tool!, September 21, 2006
This review is from: Milwaukee 0729-21 V28 4-3/4-Inch by 4-3/4-Inch Capacity 28-Volt Lithium Cordless 2 Range-Variable Speed Portable Band Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I do not use this tool as often as, say the drill or the sawzall, but this is by far my favorite tool of the V28 line and my favorite tool I own period. This tool really makes work fun. It is very powerful and keeps up with the corded version without the inconvenience of finding an outlet and stringing out a cord. Just pop the 28 volt battery in and start cutting. The light is handy too since it can be difficult to see your cut under certain circumstances. The only thing I usually cut with this tool is black iron and let me say that it buzzes right through with no problems. I am really thankful that the intelligent folks up in Milwaukee came up with this line of tools especially the portaband as these make mine and many others guys jobs a lot easier and more fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cordless Bandsaw, June 24, 2011

This review is from: Milwaukee 0729-21 V28 4-3/4-Inch by 4-3/4-Inch Capacity 28-Volt Lithium Cordless 2 Range-Variable Speed Portable Band Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
Milwaukee sells two cordless band saws, first we ordered the Milwaukee 2629-22 M18 18-Volt Cordless Band Saw Kit. It is a light tool, a lot lighter than the 28 volt version. It is not variable speed, it is on or off. The cutting capacity is not big enough to cut a 3" PVC pipe. Then we purchased the 28 volt model. It did not come with any blades so make sure you order some. The Milwaukee blades for this saw come 3 to a pack. This saw is alot heavier than the 18 volt, it has a lot more metal parts on also. Its overall size is bigger than the 18 volt model too. They both have LED lights that come on when you hit the trigger, the light covers the entire width of the cutting area of the blade, so that is nice. Unless you are cramped for space or need the lighter weight, I would spend the few extra bucks and get the 28 volt model. We also purchased the Band saw Table. You need to put some of it together and at first it seem kinda cheesy. Once you get it all together and lined up, square to the fence and to the table, it works great. You can cut beautiful straight and square cuts! The underside of the table has threaded holes to put 3/4" pipe in for legs or you can mount it to a bench. The 28 volt band saw and the table make this a very universal tool!

5.0 out of 5 stars Porta-Band Purchase, April 24, 2011

Tool came in a timely manner and was true to description. Retailer can be trusted to deliver what's promised.

As far as the tool, buyers should be aware that the tool does not come with blades. Also, buyer should consider workload versus ease of use, this is a cumbersome one-hand tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Far and away the best choice, when comparing. Best available!, December 18, 2011
This review is from: Milwaukee 0729-21 V28 4-3/4-Inch by 4-3/4-Inch Capacity 28-Volt Lithium Cordless 2 Range-Variable Speed Portable Band Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
Milwaukee went all out when they built this tool. The 18V Band Saw is a heck of a machine and could do most anything I asked of it, but its a kid's toy compared to this machine. I cut off a pressure treated 4"x4" post the other day and the saw went through it without pulling down at all. this saw has all sorts of power, is light for its capabilities, and can make a lot of cuts between charging(s).

The portability of this tool makes it so much more user-friendly than my standing band saw. I also like the ability to cut thick metals with a switch of the blade. Speaking of which, the blade changes in no time. The blade is easy to switch, is quick, and the blades come in many different configurations. The metal blades, the wood blades, and then the blades used for just about everything. As long as the blades have lasted so far, I don't see myself buying too many blades.

If you are comparing the different cordless band saws and are going to be using the tool regularly, I highly recommend purchasing this unit. The Dewalt, Makita, Bosch, and the smaller version of the Milwaukee are all quality tools, but this saw far and away their superior. Believe it or not, the 28-volt battery actually weight less than the 18-volt battery from Milwaukee. I may have an older 18-volt battery, but it weighs almost half again as much as the 28-volt. The tool itself is much beefier than the 18-volt version made by Milwaukee and is definitely professional grade. ?I would put this tool up against any of my Hilti(s) when it comes to build quality.

After using the 28-volt tools for about 3 months, I can see that the future of cordless drills is going to me larger voltage tools; 28-volt or larger. The torque you get is as good, if not better than a tool that is plugged into the wall.

Milwaukee says that it takes a full hour for a dead batter to attain a full charge; this is very conservative. I had a completely dead battery and it was fully charged in just over 40 minutes. I've only ran the battery completely dead once, or I'd have the charging time down to a window of just a few minutes. I like the fact that Milwaukee stays on the conservative side with their claims so you are pleasantly surprised instead of stretching the truth and being disappointed in the product.

I can't wait until Milwaukee completes their cordless tool line in the 28-volt or 36-volt categories. As my 18-volt tools begin to wear out, I plan on replacing them with their larger-voltage siblings from Milwaukee. Keep up the good work Milwaukee, and I'll keep buying your products!
