Milwaukee LITHIUM-ION Battery
Milwaukee is the leader in LITHIUM-ION technology, launching the first Li-Ion System in 2005 and the first backward compatible Li-Ion in 2006. Perfecting the formula in 2008, Milwaukee's LITHIUM-ION batteries are 65% lighter, 50% smaller and store more than 30% more power than "compact" NiCd batteries. They also feature a Fuel Gauge that lets you know when to recharge, making it faster and easier to scope projects and decrease downtime.

To combat on-site problems like bent/broken terminals, damaged clips and broken welds caused by use and abuse, Milwaukee LITHIUM-ION batteries are equipped with recessed terminals, slide pack dual clips and over-molded housing, and integrated welded frame and cell separators.

I have used the Milwaukee 12-volt copper tubing cutter on a couple of jobs and I can honestly say that I LOVE THIS THING! It cuts fast and clean and is a real time saver. It's great for production work, like when you've got your work bench set up and you're fitting up a boiler. It's also super handy for situations where you would normally need a close quarters tubing cutter, as it's so much faster! I'll probably continue to use my regular quick-release tubing cutter for quick jobs in the crawl space, but for lots of other work the power cutter is much faster and fun to use. It's obviously very well engineered and the quality is all you've come to expect from Milwaukee. I do wish it had come with a ballistic cloth holster that could be snapped onto your belt so it could be carried on your hip, but I guess you can't have everything. The bottom line is if you cut any amount of copper tubing on a regular basis, you're gonna want this tool. It should also be great for making your friends in the trade jealous until they decide they need to get one too!

I had a repipe of a hot water circulation line serving a 5 unit townhouse condo building. After installing 350' of tubing, the day came to do all the tie-ins. By 11 am the thing went dead and stranded me under the building!

That's not all. It frequently does not grab the tube in the correct place, especially with 1/2" tube. Then it just spins and accomplishes nothing, or it locks up and cannot be removed with the use of Channellocks. Another detail of less concern is that when it spins, it is not centered on the tool, so the tool moves in an oval orbit around the tube (wobbling), rather than in a smooth circle.

When the thing worked, it was great, though. Working under a building or in close quarters makes the job much simpler. But it frequently jams or doesn't grab correctly much too often. Read the reviews of others here who have used it more than once for confirmation. Too bad, as it is a nice idea...

Milwaukee 2471-22 12-Volt Pipe Cutter Kit

We bought this to try while remodeling a small grocery store. For the most part, it met our expectations well. In the bottom of and under most refrigeration cases, there is not much clearance to operate your cutter. This device worked well 3-4 times out of every 5. Sometimes it can be hard to position correctly. If it is not on the pipe just right, it will spin and spin and not accomplish anything. However, when you get it right, it is outstanding. The only change I would like to see, would be the ability to cut smaller pipe. As it ships, it can cut down to 3/8 ID(1/2 OD). In refrigeration, we use a lot of 1/4 ID(3/8 OD) and it would be outstanding if they would include this size in the capacity of the unit.

It self-adjusts to various pipe sizes. Look through a window (conveniently built into the tool head) to see exaclty where your pencil mark is on the pipe. An LED illuminates the mark to increase accuracy of your cut. Pull the trigger, and in a few seconds one pipe is two.

It is really shines when you have to cut pipe that is in place, like between studs in a finished wall. The only option used to be a Sawzall, which leaves a ragged edge that had to be dressed with a file. No more. This baby will chop it in no time, and it leaves a clean cut! I was remodeling some pipe in an attic recently and it worked like a dream.

I still keep my trusty Ridgid (manual) pipe cutter handy, but lately it never comes out of my tool pouch.

It seems pretty well built, and will stand up to lots of use. I HIGHLY recommend this tool! ;-)

I've had this tool for about 15 months now and it still works great. I do a lot of repair work and make about 50-100 cuts a week. The tool dose spin endlessly or jam if its not on the pipe just right, but you do get a feel for it after multiple uses and should not be much of a problem. You also do have to make an effort not to get the trigger to wet when cutting over head, I think thats what shorts out the boards. The head of the tool is water tight so it can get wet and not hurt it. I would and have recommend this tool to many plumbers that would look to make there job just a little bit easier. My old no.15 and mini cutters are now semi retired. Now just want one with a larger capacity From 1 1/4" to 2" would be great.
