5.0 out of 5 stars Small and Tough
This is a new set that I got last month. The drill and impact both have led charge indicators that let you know how the battery is doing along with an led to light up the work. The drill will drive about any screw my larger ones will. The impact rating did not mean much to me so I checked it in ftlbs. I get around thirty ftlbs. which is enough to break phillips bits if...

this review is only for the impact. reviewer mike is right, impact is no where near stated torque of 850 in/lbs and struggles to drive 3" drywall screws. i also have burnt out the impact mechanism in just two months.
the tool is out for warranty repair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small and Tough, October 7, 2008
This review is from: Milwaukee 2490-23 12-Volt Compact Drill, Impact Wrench, and Worklight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a new set that I got last month. The drill and impact both have led charge indicators that let you know how the battery is doing along with an led to light up the work. The drill will drive about any screw my larger ones will. The impact rating did not mean much to me so I checked it in ftlbs. I get around thirty ftlbs. which is enough to break phillips bits if you try. The flashlight works well and will stick with it's magnet and the head pivots. The charger has worked well and the batteries last a long time. If you think your 18 volts drivers are getting heavy while on a ladder. Give this set a try. They will not replace the 18 volt and larger tools but they make a nice addition and work well.

I purchased this Milwaukee 12 volt combo drill/impact set after checking out other brands of the same style, including Snapon.
Milwaukee beat them all on torque, including the much touted Makita. The rpm is very fast for the impact, as is the drill, although a bit slower.
After owning these for over two months now, I can say that they are also very good on battery life and this is being used in a professional automotive shop daily.
Milwaukee has a winner here!.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Bang For The Buck, March 22, 2009
This review is from: Milwaukee 2490-23 12-Volt Compact Drill, Impact Wrench, and Worklight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Milwaukee 2490-23 12-Volt Compact Drill, Impact Wrench, and Worklight Combo Kit I caught this little outfit on sale @ $145.00. Built a red oak wall bench using both drill & impact driver. Plenty of power for a 12 volt. Once you go litium batteries you won't go back. Wished it came in a moulded case instead bag,but bag does let you add bits, drills, etc.Very pleased so far.

Great product. I don't know how I lived with out the impact before. I used it side by side with my Makita 18v driver. It was slower and battery ran out of juice quicker, but it worked well driving in 3" lags as well as setting up kitchen cabinets. Wished the led lights had a time delay after using letting go of the trigger like makita's do. The impact will definitely be the most used tool in this kit. The light's magnet didn't have as solid of a grip as I'd like.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a good LITTLE kit, March 15, 2009

This review is from: Milwaukee 2490-23 12-Volt Compact Drill, Impact Wrench, and Worklight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a good little kit, but it's just that ... little. This is meant for average around-the-house tasks. And for that, it's great. Maybe the Milwaukee name has people thinking it should be some sort of "wonder tool", but it's not.

What it does offer is a few compact, lightweight tools for a good variety of tasks. It lets you get a lot of things done without lugging around big heavy tools. When I need something bigger, I get out the hefty Milwaukee V18 tools I have (now discontinued and replaced by the M18).

Bottom line ... if you use these as intended, they are great. High quality with good ergonomics, impressive battery life and easy to use in tight spaces or where you are working overhead without exhausting your arms.

This is a great set of cordless tools. I also have the Milwaukee V28 (very heavy but a powerhouse) and a Makita V18 Lith Ion (second favorite drill) but I find myself reaching for the compact drill/driver or impact driver almost all of the time in my shop. If you do a lot of drilling, just make up a set of drill bits for yourself with the hex shaft ends (you can purchase individual ones at Lowes or Home Depot or buy a set from DeWalt etc.). It's so convenient when heading out of the house on a small job to just throw everything into the bag and toss into the car to take with you. The Lith ion batteries give you a long run time and I guarantee that you'll be reaching for one of these most of the time when working. I have been most impressed with the impact driver/wrench when driving screws. You just have to back off when screw is set to prevent you from snapping the head off. In any event you'll be happy with this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't let the voltage fool you., December 13, 2008
This review is from: Milwaukee 2490-23 12-Volt Compact Drill, Impact Wrench, and Worklight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I received this item as a gift and have been nothing but impressed. The size and shape of these tools fit well in both my small hands and the larger hands of my friends and family. The power is much greater than the run of the mill 18+ volt models out there. These will hang well for anyone that is in need of either precision drilling, driving or putting the largest screw you can find into just about anything. Also the batteries fully recharge in less than 30 minutes most times.
The only drawback is the bit chucks on these. They require the hex bits with the indented ring around the bottom to work perfectly, but will work with just about any regular hex bit. Pick up one of the milwaukee bit sets for around $35 and you should be set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact and great!, March 6, 2010

I have been in the finish carpentry business for years now and use all types of cordless tools. I bought this cordless set to replace my Bosch Impactor driver. I have always been a big fan of Milwaukee tools, both corded and cordless, that being said, I am not married to one particular brand. These drivers are not meant to be used for heavy duty work, but are rugged enough for continuous all day use. These tools are very durable and reliable. I use them several times a day on every thing from small deck and trim screws to self tapping and machine screws. The impact driver is for the medium jobs, like short deck screws and self tappers. The screw or subcompact driver can be used to remove and replace smaller screws but not much else. If you are looking to build a deck or run 3 inch screws with this set you will be very disappointed. However, if you are looking to drive 1 1/2 inch deck screws, self tapping tech screws, or replace door hinge screws, these are the perfect tools! I love them! No one company has a lock on the market for cordless pocket tools, but with the many other tools Milwaukee makes that take the same batteries and the price that Amazon sells these kits for, its hard to find a better deal!

These two drivers are the best I have ever had. They are light weight, powerful, and fit in very tight spaces. Great job Milwaukee!
