5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Love it (again....), September 10, 2009

This review is from: Milwaukee 2492-22 M12 Combo Kit 3/8-Inch Drill Driver & Radio (Tools & Home Improvement)
First, since I love Milwaukee, this is (sort-of) a biased review. The drill is only a 150 in./lbs drill as opposed to the advertised 250 in./lbs. No big deal but somewhat important none-the-less.

About the radio: Completely and Totally the bomb!!! I live in TJ, Mexico and my favorite radio station is in L.A. I receive the station very clear and I am truly impressed with the quality of reception it gets. The FM stations work clear-as-a-bell too. The best way to describe the size is a little bigger than 3 ipod touches together (more or less). That said: THIS IS NOT A JOB-SITE Radio. It is a very "personal sized" radio. The sound is great, with treble and bass being user adjustable. The MP3 hook-up is 1/8" or headphone sized jack only with a stretchy cloth covered thingy to hold your ipod in place. The pictures you see on the ads show that it is a pull down type door release mechanism and the sound as I said earlier is really, really good! As for headphone jacks: there is none, nor is there an aux output.

This isn't a job site radio as it isn't really that loud. I also own the V28 Job Site Radio, but the size should be your indication that the volume between the two radios is obvious.

This radio uses the M12 12V batteries or an electrical cord that is completely different than previous Milwaukee stuff. It has a transformer style plug with a cell phone charger style cord!? I've used this radio with the batteries as they seem to last a really long time which, coincidentally is why I bought the M12 kit.

This is perfect for shop or older people who don't crank up the volume. I love it as it's a perfect personal sized radio but can reasonably cranked up to old-fart-rock-out levels; but radio reception is awesome!!!

This (from experience) is also the perfect homeowner's drill. It's got the guts (torque) for almost every job, wood, metal, etc. to not embarass you. It's also small enough for a woman's hand yet manly enough to endure the ridicule of your very jealous neighbors! Add to that the batteries, which always hold their charge way longer than my other V28 and M18 batteries and suddenly you have a WINNER!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great combination, February 2, 2010

This review is from: Milwaukee 2492-22 M12 Combo Kit 3/8-Inch Drill Driver & Radio (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great little combo kit.

The radio:

-is convenient.
-is relatively small, in size, weight and sound.
-is not going to fill a big space with sound, but it sounds fine, albeit a little tinny. (However, I don't think you could expect more for the price and size.)
-seems to last a long time on a 12v battery.
-does not have a handle on top but has 2 side handles which are great for carrying it around.
-has a useful ipod/mp3 player compartment--it's a little work to get the ipod in there, but once in there, it is pretty secure--you can turn the ipod on, close the compartment, turn on the radio, hold it with one hand by one of the handles and listen as you swing it back and forth as you walk. Note, it's a little bit of a hassle to access the compartment if it's closed--so you may want to rely on playlists/shuffle in that case.
-includes a plug so that you can run it off a/c power.
-does NOT include a charger function -- i.e., your 12v battery cannot be charged by the radio when plugged in. (that would probably increase the weight)

The drill/driver:

-seems solid
-seems to have pretty good power (but I wouldn't want to try to build a deck with it)
-seems well suited for around-the-house tasks
-lasts a long time on a charge
-is pretty comfortable
-has forward/reverse buttons that are a little awkward in their placement but they're workable
-does NOT have a holder for bits.

A nylon bag is included that will hold everything in the kit with some room to spare so you can include bits and one or more (depending on the size) m12 tools--the light and another driver would definitely fit into the bag also. This is much more useful than a molded plastic case. I like that they didn't make the bag an exact fit -- that would be too small. I have seen tougher nylon tool bags but this one seems like it will last a while.

All in all a nice combo kit and a pretty good bargain.
