5.0 out of 5 stars Great angle drill option, January 15, 2009

Milwaukee 48-06-2871 Right Angle Drive Unit Attachment for Milwaukee Drills 0234-6 and 0244-1 Only

Simply put, if you have a Milwaukee 0234 or 0244 model drill, or plan to get one and also need an angle drill, then this is a great way to go to have both drills and save on buying a dedicated angle drill.

I called Milwaukee to double-check my 20 year old 0234-1 model drill would take this attachment. They said as long as the model showed 0234 or 0244 as the first four numbers, it would work. You'll notice the product title lists only the 0234-6, or 0244-1. Obviously there are more models (the hyphenated number) that would work like my old 0234-1. You might call them to double check your model, but like I said, they told me the 0234 or 0244 numbers will work. This is the exact kit that comes preinstalled on a regular angle drill so you know you'll get the same performance.

Never took my chuck off before, but the instructions where clear enough to figure out. Mine took extra persuading since it hadn't been off in 20 years. By reversing the angle gizmo you get two speed options. After loosening things up I was able to switch back and forth between angle and normal very quickly. Just keep the allen tools nearby and it's easy.

You can spin the drill in the collar so that the drill handle faces any direction in relation to the angle attachement/drill bit. One hand on the angle gearbox and one hand on the drill handle and you're running. You'll want to make sure you still have your side handle to screw into the drill for better control on occasion. Tons of torque since of course you're handling a Milwaukee, the drill amperage is plenty to run this angle attachment.

Great option to consider to save alot of money.

EDIT: 21Mar2010 Just finished new-construction worth of plumbing and electrical holes. This angle drill kit stayed firmly attached to my old hole hawg the entire time. Used Milwaukke M18 cordless drill/drivers, M18 1/4" impact driver, and on occasion an impact drill for all other drilling/driving duties. Performance of the angle kit on my old drill is still perfect and, as is well-known with Milwaukee magnums, a real wrist-tweaker. If you're an occasional user, or have other drills and just want to temporarily convert your 0234 or 0244 - this kit is the way to go.

I suppose if you have an extra 0234 or 0244 model Milwaukee drill kicking around, you want to convert it to angled permanently, then this would also be an inexpensive way to get a permanent angle drill.

UPDATE 26Mar10: Just got a price alert on this attachment. I've now seen this kit as low as 76.00 shipped from an Amazon Merchant. Quite a savings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solidly built & great option to an expensive right angle drill, June 20, 2008

This review is from: Milwaukee 48-06-2871 Right Angle Drive Unit Attachment for Milwaukee Drills 0234-6 and 0244-1 Only (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used many Milwaukee tools in the past and have always been very satisfied with their quality, and I have done enough tight angle drilling (electrical and plumbing work) to realize the necessity of the right tool for the right job (RTRJ as a my brother's father-in-law always says). While I've have used Milwaukee's right angle drills (and you can't pass them up for their pure power), however I really don't need one day-in and day-out to justify an expensive single-use right angle drill. Plus after having finally pushed my trusted old Bosch 1005VSRK 5.5 Amp 3/8-Inch Drill the breaking point, I was in the market for a straight corded drill too. Not wanting to spend so much on a dedicated tool and looking for the flexibility of a convertible drill I found a perfect solution in this the Milwaukee 48-06-2871 Right Angle Drive Unit Attachment. This right angle drive unit can be fitted onto either of two drills: this drill the 850 rpm Milwaukee 0234-6 Magnum 5.5 Amp 1/2-Inch Drill or the 600 rpm Milwaukee 0244-1 Magnum 5.5 Amp 1/2-Inch Drill. I went with the #0234-6, and yes, while on paper the 5.5 amps of power is not the same as the 7 amps in the Milwaukee right angle drills, but I have to say that I have found that it is unstoppable! This right angle drive unit is the EXACT same head/right angle unit that is used on any of the dedicated right angle drills... all you are doing is putting it on a different drill/power unit. And best of all this right angle drive unit gives it the flexibility of using as a regular drill or take 3 minutes to install/remove the right angle drive unit and you are ready to drill tons of holes in any number of tight areas! As is Milwaukee's reputation, I found both the drill and this right angle drive unit are solidly built and have a good feel. Unless perhaps you are a tradesman, I would highly suggest saving the $100 plus giving yourself added flexibility and buying this right angle drive unit and one of the 1/2 inch drills to solve any and all of your drilling needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars sure saves a lot of knuckle skin, December 12, 2009

Finally broke down & got this for my older 1/2 inch Magnum drill (0234-1). Worked like a charm for piloting & driving several dozen 3/8x5 lag screws & neither the drill nor the angle drive were stressed out. I've been repairing old buildings(carpentry) for 35 years & am very pleased with all my Milwaukee tools that were designed prior to 2000, after that I have my doubts on some, but this sure is a keeper.
