18 Volt Cordless Saw - perfect for the quick fixes,

This review is from: Milwaukee 6310-20 18-Volt 6-1/2-Inch Ni-Cad Cordless Circular Saw (Tool Only, No Battery) (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is my first purchase of a cordless circular saw. Because of that I can't say how this one matches up to other brands. The pros: medium sized therefore lighter weight than corded saws, lots of power - no problem cutting throught 2x4's or 1 inch oak, cordless - no connecting extension cords, it has a push button blade lock for easy blade replacement, safety trigger release - for those with kids, batteries seem to last about as long as my cordless Hatchet Sawzall (probably could crosscut about 50 -75 2x4's, and it will run on Milwaukee's 18 volt Regular or Lithium Ion batteries. The cons: blades (6.5 inch) can be take a little time to locate at some of the commericial big box do-it-yourself places (I know the big orange stores sell them) and it has a left sided blade - not a really big deal since it works very well right handed , it just takes a couple of practice cuts to know where the blade is cutting like all saws.

This is a great tool. It is quiet, very smooth running and well balanced. It cuts like it has eyes! I have a lot of cordless circular saws DeWalt, (2) Milwaukee (1) Craftsman (2) Black & Decker (1) Ryobi (1) Makita (1) Denali (1) and probably a couple I have forgot about. They range in blade size from around 4" to the 36 volt DeWalt 7 ¼ inch. The Milwaukee is the first saw I reach for when cutting O.S.B, plywood or 2x or smaller lumber. The lack of any vibration and the great sight line make it easy to make very precise cuts on a variety of materials. The stamped aluminum shoe isn't going to break if you drop it. It will bend and you can straighten it out unlike a cast aluminum shoe as used on some other saws. I don't know what else to say, it is a tough saw, it doesn't look very special but it sure does work good. And it is one of the quietest circular saws I own.

At the sub $50 bargain price I got this for it is a great deal and a very handy saw. Do not expect it to replace a monster corded worm drive saw, but for smaller jobs where setting up extension cords would be a pain in the neck this is just the ticket. By all means use a thin kerf blade like comes with the saw when you get a replacement blade.
Milwaukee makes several different 18 volt Li-Ion battery packs. This works with the full sized V18 packs, but not their small compact cousins nor with the new M18 system Milwaukee has recently brought out. I suspect that the reason many V18 compatible tools are available at a deep discount is that Milwaukee is changing its battery pack form factor. Personally I'm thrilled to have this one at a bargain price.

I bought this expecting it would work with the same battery I use with my Milwaulkee Lithium-Ion Hammer drill,
it does! The saw is light and powerful with the Lithium battery, the charge lasts a long time for a cordless. This saw comes with (1) ONE 6 1/2 CARBIDE blade, the other review here makes one wonder. No case, no battery. Blade is on the LEFT side. Also, it's made in the USA!

I have had this over a month now and couldn't be happier with it. The shoe is thick aluminum, very durable. The saw cuts very well, is easy to control one handed and has easily accessible tilt and depth adjustments. I am using with Li-Ion batteries and cut time is impressive. Had to make a few 2x4s out of a 2x12 and this thing ripped the 2x lengthwise without a problem, several times before needing a charge. I've never had a cordless do this. And the most pleasant surprise of all was ITS MADE IN THE USA! What a novelty these days - good luck finding a cordless drill made here... Overall the perfect cordless saw: good balance, sturdy, easily adjustment, controllable, not too heavy, plenty of power - what more could you want?
Only down side is rip fence not included (but available separately).

This replaced a similar DeWalt Product. Despite being very inexpensive I feel it is a stronger better built tool.
Simple, straightforward and easy to use like any of these saws are. While i have no objective way to measure, I think I get many more cuts out of a single charge than the 18V Dewalt. I reach for this tool much more than I did the DeWalt. When I had the DeWalt I would often use a corded tool, now i tend to use this.

Tough, Durable Cordless Saw.,

This review is from: Milwaukee 6310-20 18-Volt 6-1/2-Inch Ni-Cad Cordless Circular Saw (Tool Only, No Battery) (Tools & Home Improvement)
I Purchased this saw and used it w/ Ni-Cad batteries for a little over 1 year before buying the V18 lithis. Although the lithium battery seems to bring a certain "crispness" to some of the older tools they appear to bog down & cut out under the heavy load of some tools & this saw is one of them. The tool itself has powered through it's share of tough materials. I was surprised at the power because at 3,200 rpms I felt it was too "slow" but I was wrong, with quality blades (Freud Avanti & Diablo) it's done the job well, over & over again. Being a left sided blade saw makes it all the more convenient to use as we don't need to lean over the tool to see the cut line. The depth & bevel settings are easy to lock in and the included rip fence is a snap to attach. All in all, imo, it's made to withstand years of professional punishment.

I've used this saw for 4 years now and it is my favorite of all the other Circular Saws, (corded or battery powered) bar none. I currently own this and a Milwaukee tilt lock which is average, I'd rather have a corded version of this saw any day.
The cut guide marks on the Aluminum foot extend so far in front of the blade I don't have to bother using a square to extend my pencil mark even when cutting a 2x6. The balance, weight and position of the handle are what set this apart from all other circular saws and I've used alot. even with its 6.5" blade it will bevel all the way and still cut a 2x. Even though the Nicad batteries are outdated now this saw will make a ton of cuts before running out of power. Cons. It needs a kick stand. The compromise to it's ergonomic design and balance is top heaviness when the cut depth is set shallow. I usually prop it up on a 2x4. Wish it had a rafter hook.

Bought this as an add-on to my Milwaukee 18v hammer drill set. It really completes the cordless set and amplifies the capabilities of being cordless.
This saw is very powerful and can cut through a lot more than my older Dewalt. For one thing the blade is much larger at 6.5" while the Dewalt was only the odd 5-3/8" blade. That size was okay but always was just short of fulfilling the needed cut depth. This size is more conventional and hence usable. The saw itself handles very nicely; especially for right-handers. Cons: It is a little heavy for a cordless so it is harder to use as a "trim saw". RPM of blade is a little slow so you have to be aware of this so you don't try to jam too much wood through while cutting. But it will eventually get the job done and with the 18 volt battery it will last so you don't have to be so conscious of using up the battery. Bought this at $69 so I can't complain.

You can get a good amount of running time out a batt. But what I like as a right hander is I can see where I'm cutting, the blade is on the left side, unlike 90% of all cicular saws.
