The cuts it made were as though they were a milled finish. They required no extra grinding, no cleaning up of any burrs, and you could handle the pieces as soon as you were done cutting them. The saw catches all of the fillings in a box attached to the saw which you need to dump from time to time but it sure beats having metal filings all over your floor and sparks flying everywhere.
We cut every piece of iron for the splitter with this saw and the blade was like new yet when we were done. Not sure on how long the blades actually last but i was impressed on how much iron we cut and there wasn't one carbide tooth missing when we done.
To give you a small idea of how fast it cuts i timed us cutting a 1/2" piece of iron and it took 33 seconds to cut a 20" piece that required no cleaning up when we were done. We took that piece directly over and welded it on. The gentleman that was helping me is very particular on how things line up and is also a machinest by trade, so he likes things within thousandths of an inch all day long! He couldn't say enough good about this saw as well!
WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!!
It cut the C-channel like i was cutting 2x12 with a good sharp worm drive circ saw with mininimal cleanup as others have noted.
Note that, unlike a conventional circ saw, it is very had to see your blade hitting your mark. This is, of course, a tradeoff of the enclosed blade design which makes operation safer and tidier. So you'll want to use a guide, which incidentally increases blade life as well. The steel-cutting carbide blades (much like those in drycut chop saws as well) are pretty intolerant of lateral or twisting pressure on the blade, like you get as you try to freehand it and make slight corrections to and from your line. Using it without a guide clamped to your work is akin to using your drycut chop box without the work clamped.
Another note, is that i was expecting it to be able to bevel like a conventional circ saw. It does not, the blade is fixed at 90 to the base. This makes for a much more stout design, but it did not work as expected for the compound andgle fitup project i had. Nothing claims it does, I just didn't research it well enough prior to purchase. Again, some simple guides and jigs solved the problem, and probably made for a better end result anyway.
I've used it many times since, and its a great addition to the shop, and can step in on a lot of problematic metal cutting situations, like cutting bar grate or expanded steel, or cutting miters more extreme than our cold saw can cut. A lot of things we used to use the OA torch or plasma cutter for now get cut with this, saving a lot of setup time, grinding time, and consumables expense.
Oh, and its loud as hell. You and everyone working around you should have your eyes and ears on. :)
crimp on my own home, now we're doing a buddies. Would recomend
finer tooth blade instead of the one that it comes with. Excellent tool almost as good as a cold or shear cut. Thanks Milwaukee.
