Product Description

Amazon.com

When the inquisitive engineers at Milwaukee Tools started asking professional carpenters what they wanted in a portable circular saw, they consistently heard the same three things: pure cutting power, maximum control, and all-day comfort. The result of their research went into the creation of the Milwaukee 6391-21, arguably the best-built circular saw on the market.

For starters, the 6391 has a monster 15-amp, 5,800-rpm motor that produces 3-1/4 horsepower; that’s nearly as powerful as a worm-drive saw, yet this 7-1/4-inch Milwaukee model is more than one third lighter.

Look closely and you’ll notice that the blade is mounted on the left side of the motor. That southpaw position gives right-handed users a much clearer view of the cutting line since they no longer have to lean over their arm to see the blade. The 10.4-pound saw’s thick aluminum shoe tilts up to 50 degrees for bevel cutting.

The 6391 is also equipped with Milwaukee’s exclusive Tilt-Lok handle that can be adjusted to the most comfortable cutting position: to the rear for vertical cutting, on top for horizontal cutting, or anywhere in between. The saw comes with a carbide-tipped saw blade, blade wrench, storage case and owner’s manual. -- Joseph Truini

From the Manufacturer

The Milwaukee 6391-21 Circular Saw features a patented adjustable main handle that provides users with maximum control and comfort. The handle position can be moved to eight different positions for the best ergonomic grip. Both front and rear handles have cushioned grips. Superior cut visibility for right hand users with the blade on the left side of the saw. At 10.4-pounds and featuring a powerful Milwaukee built 15 amp motor, this saw provides 3.25 maximum-horsepower. An aircraft aluminum shoe resists bending. Easy to reach depth and bevel adjustment knobs allow bevels to 50 degrees, exceeding the bevel capacity of worm drive saws by 5 degrees.

I use the Freud TK303 blade for a very smooth cut.

I've never used a left side blade saw before and I really like the concept, being right handed.

The saw is VERY powerful, but easy to handle and adjustments are very easy to make.

I just recieved this saw from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. I have used it on two occasions. The power is awsome! You can barley feel the wood as you cut. All the controls work great. However, I had to place some oil on the front bevel lever pivot to get it to move fully into the locked position. One of the best features is the fact that you can easily see the blade and the cut line through an opening. I can cut along a line with perfection!! The tilt-lok handle is cool too. You can set the blade to cut 3/4 of an inch, then lower the handle to the normal position. Your hand is no longer way up in the air as with other circular saws. This is a fabulous saw. Considered Porter Cable. Glad I chose the Milwaukee. It's great.

I purchased the Bosch rear handle worm drive construction saw. I like the handle on the rear of the saw. It is ideal for cutting vertically directly away from you. A top handle saw is better for making cuts horizontally, as in across the front of you. What did Milwaukee do? They made a multi-position handle. That way you have all options open to you. No need to buy two saws. Milwaukees penchant for power is evident in this saw as well. My hat's off to Milwaukee, their engineering did it again. Highly recommended.

This saw is an excellent choice for reducing sheets of plywood to safely then cut on the table saw. I use the Freud TK303 blade for a very smooth cut. This saw can cut through 3/4 inch cabinet grade plywood with ease. I am right handed and bought the left blade saw since it improves visibility to the cut.

I thought that a left-blade design might make it easier to see the blade and follow a line. That turned out to be true for me, a right-handed sawer. It does blow dust into your face, but you learn to expect and deal with it.

I was attracted by the nice big and sturdy base and how easily it would adjust and stay adjusted. Other saws had cheap stamped bases and cruder looking adjustment features.

The saw is extensively made of magnesium alloys and so is the base. I found that it is not as slick as the cheap stamped units. Waxing it occassionally turns out to be surprisingly helpful as it adds perceived hp.

The adjustable handle is not all that easy to adjust, but it is a feature and useful on occasion.

Blade depth adjustment is kind of a 2.5 hand task until you do it a few times. Like the other adjustments, it is sturdy and positive.

It is as light as it can be, sturdy and reliable as all my other Milwaukee drills and saws are, I am sure, and certainly as powerful and smooth as anything.

The case is really strange, seemingly made for something else (I cannot figure out what), and although it is huge, the saw will only fit inside if the blade is up and the handle is down and you are dedicated.

Why not five stars? Well, there is no excuse for not having a saw brake so the blade will not spin forever after you shut it down. That can cause problems with your cuts and is unsafe.

Made in Mexico? As long as management can make more money by sending work overseas, they will do so. There are no quality issures with overseas assembly, all things being equal.

I'll state up-front that this is the only high-end circular saw that I've used to any degree but I don't see how any saw could top this one. I bought this saw, after much research, to replace a crummy old Skil saw I had. I gave consideration to the Porter Cable and DeWalt saws too, but this one seemed to stand out in my book - and in many of the reviews I read. I do wish it had the dust collection features of the PC though and a blade brake for added safety.

At the same time I purchased this saw, I also bought a Freud Diablo blade and put on it. I have used this combination to build a variety of ww'ing type projects and this saw had performed flawlessly. The saw has ample power, is well-built, and handles very easily.

I'm sure whatever your circular saw needs are, this saw is up to the task. Definately recommended.

I bought this saw about two years ago now and it's still running smooth. This saw is comparitively light and very easy to handle. I've never used a saw that ran smoother than this. I use the adjustable handle less than I expected...but It comes in handy when cutting 1/4" ply ect. I keep it down for 2x mat.. My only contention with this saw is the exhaust on the casing should be hooded, if you move your head to far down to watch your line you get a blast of sawdust in your face. Also, changing the handle position is awkward. Those are minor annoyances, I still rate this saw 5 stars.

I needed an alternative to my skil 77 wormdrive, it was either this or the Porter Cable so I went with this one. I am a pro, so I use it daily. So far it performs as expected. Mitre adjustment works well, depth adjustment works well. Havent tried the handle adjustment (and you probably never will either) The only negative seemed to be two raised indentations on the plate which needed to be filed down. Plenty of power, well balanced.

I have been replaceing my subfloor in my kitchen and bath. I needed something lighter than my wormdrive circular saw. After reading the reviews on Amazon I decided to purchase this model for the light weight and power.

It has worked very well so far and the light weight is a relief to my arms.

The case does fit very snug, and I had a hard time getting it to go in until I found out to change the blade setting before putting it in the case and pushing down hard before snapping the lid shut. Probably the worse thing so far has been ajusting the depth of cut. The release lever seems to bind at times. It definally is a keeper.
